Plex 1.13.5.5332 Crashing 1-2 times a Day on Synology DS918+

And if this helps, it usually crashes after watching something for an hour or more

Running EXT4 or BTRFS ?

ok.

let this sit on 1.13.2. See if PMS remains stable

If PMS also reboots daily, the issue isn’t PMS, it’s the OS or hardware in that order

I would also recommend you upgrade to 6.2 U2 at next earliest convenience

i dont believe it reboots daily, how would i check that in PMS?

i have an uptime of 117 days in DSM

Sorry… Crashing / rebooting. It has been a rough week.

PMS crash should not happen.
Restart / reboot is where my words got crossed

PMS 1.13.5 might fail to respond (jammed up) but not crash

This is why I have given you 1.13.2

ohhh got it, i hear ya. Same here!

did you get what you were looking for from the first set of commands i posted alittle earlier?

@ChuckPa

Yes, all good.

As background info:

  1. PMS 1.13.5 introduced “ServerBindInterface” which allows you to select which adapter the HTTP server listens on.
  2. Because our Synology boxes have multiple, and support Docker, it was necessary but also a challenge to implement.
  3. After collecting a ton more data from actual use cases, enough information is now in hand to refine it and provide what is really needed.
  4. This is what they are doing

Until that time, greater stability is had by sticking with the ‘as it was’ versions prior to 1.13.5

ahh i see.

Now that you bring up adapters, i have mine bonded. Not sure if thats a problem…

You’re fine. It occurs even in bonded systems. I have 4x 802.11ad and it occurs.

got it, thanks for the clarifications.

So 6.2 update 2 is okay to use with PMS 13.2?

If so i will upgrade now

Yes. I updated the installer for all of 6.2 long ago.

okay will do :ok_hand:

And i will send over those kernel logs if PMS crashes on 13.2

It’s been so long since I upgraded one. Make sure it reboots

will do, thanks for the heads up

Of course. I know of that part because in 6.2, all the rules for UDEV changed.

Worse-case scenario: Uninstall the package and re-install it. It will touch everything it needs.
( I do all checks and corrections with each install/upgrade of PMS )

oh okay, uninstall and reinstall PMS 13.2 im assuming if PMS does not work after upgrading

100% correct.

If it still fails to work correctly:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Open File Station
  3. Drill in Plex -> Plex Media Server
  4. Right-click Logs -> Compress to Logs.zip
  5. Let me give a read to see what the H… is going on

okay, i will send those logs as well as the kernel logs via ssh you posted earlier

IF all is well, kernel logs not needed
