Got Plex ages ago, know my way around without being a super-user.
Just tried to add a movie/TV mini movie, in MKV format (as all my library files are) nothing unusual so far. However, the movie in question is originally Italian, called “Pompei, ieri, oggi, domani” (2007), which was renamed “Gladiator of Pompeii” and then just “Pompeii”. It appears on IMDB and TVDB. I have named the folder & MKV file to all 3 titles but Plex steadfastly refuses to see the item. I even added the individual folder to my TV Library but still nothing.
Honestly, why does it have to be so difficult? If I want to add something to iPlayer I just point it to the folder and there it is. I’m in charge, Plex, not you, just do what I ask of you…
Rant over, who knows how to fix this please?
Sometimes TV Movies are difficult, but in this case - not:
It came up for me just like TMDB had it.
Check the name carefully - Refresh Metadata, or even better…
Plex Dance it:
Thank you. That’s encouraging, at least I know which of the 3 titles to concentrate on. TBH I have multi-checked the filename and refreshed/scanned several times, so it looks like I will need to sign-up for some Dance lessons!
Many thanks for taking the trouble to check it out for me.
So, you have it one file?
If so, I’d name and structure it just I did and Plex Dance.
Note:
My Library is English - and that may make a difference - that and I’m also using the New TV Show Agent, but it came right up, fully populated.
My library is English too & I have it nested just like yours. Other than being MKV & not Mp4 it all seems identical; I’ll check out the New TV Show Agent, I changed the agents several times trying to get it to work so I’m not sure what I left in place.
If you changed the library to the New Agent, it won’t fully engage until you Refresh Metadata for the entire library.
This item will be in a Movie Library, however, but the same thing applies.
If you’re still on the old Agents, TMDB should pick it up immediately. IF Plex Movie is your Agent, Fix Match/Search Options/Select TMDB from the Agent Dropdown.
On the new Movie Agent, there are no specific selections - it just works - or at least it did for me.
Yay! Didn’t have to do any dancing. Used Plex Movie Scanner and Plex Movies (legacy) Agent and there it is!
I still wish there was the facility to just add any file to the library and add the metadata of one’s own making…
Thanks again for all your help.
There kinda is:
Fix Match/Search Options/Agent: Personal Media
or
New Agent:
“Unmatch”
Either will make Plex stop trying to match the Movie and then you can edit the entire thing (except Actors, dammit).
Plex won’t try to match anything in an Other Videos Library, but sometimes you want an item to behave itself while it’s in a Movie Library and you can do the same with an entire “Fake” Show in a TV Show Library as well.
You can’t add movies to a TV library.
That explains why doing it didn’t work then!
However, not much else worked either.
Now that is useful to know. Thank you.
Did you try adding it to a movie library?
Sorry for my delayed response.
I did try both movies and TV libraries, each one twice I think. Confusingly, IMDB lists the media as having 2 episodes (Pompei, ieri, oggi, domani - Season 1 - IMDb) which led me to put it in TV first. Then I renamed it twice to match the options and then did the same in Movies.
TBH, I can’t remember the sequence I tried everything now but it was only after completely removing the files away from Plex and replacing them in Movies with the correct title that it finally showed up.
I suspect it’s a terrible movie anyway; I need to improve my taste in entertainment or this will keep happening!
