This issue has been discussed in several topics already but I only found workarounds that don’t work for my case.
Plex doesn’t recognize some of my documentaries with a colon in the title.
For example: “Bob Ross: Happy painter” or “Steve Jobs: the man in the machine”.
I use The TVDB and Moviedb as agents, the 2 documentaires exist on the MovieDB website but Plex does not find them because of the colon in the title i suppose.
I tried to replace the colon with other signs or juste remove it “Bob Ross - Happy painter” or “Bob Ross Happy painter” but it doesn’t work. The title of the documentary is not even added without the posters, nothing happens. Only if I add S01E01 in the name plex thinks it’s a tv show and adds the title but without any posters or background from the TvDB or MovieDB.
If I use filebot to rename it, Filebot wants to add the colon in the title but it’s not possible to add colons in filenames so I’m stuck again. I hope someone has found a solution for this.
Thanks for testing, strange, the same title does not work for me.
I use Plex server with Freenas, I could try it with my other NAS (netgear) to see if there’s a difference but I should be the same result. I’ll post my results later.
Hmm sorry that was really stupid of me, that was the problem indeed.
I put the documentary under TVShows but I should have put it with my Movies.
I just moved both files to the Movies library/share and now it’s recognized immediately.
Thank you for the quick support, the problem is solved for both files now!
