Server Version#: 4.14.1.0
Player Version#: Playing via Windows server
Hey everyone,
I’m hoping someone here can help because I’m pretty frustrated with Plex’s metadata matching right now. This is an issue I’ve run into before, and it always seems to come back around.
Here’s what’s going on:
I updated my Plex Media Server to version 4.14.1.0 last night. After the update, I added the movie “Brothers” (2024) to my library, but Plex won’t find the correct metadata. The movie stars Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, and Taylour Paige, and it’s directed by Max Barbakow. It’s a new Amazon Prime original, so it’s not exactly obscure, but Plex is only showing me a match for “Brothers” by Fernando Scarpa (1970)—definitely the wrong movie.
I believe the issue might have something to do with the Plex agents.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- My library is set to use The Movie Database (TMDb) for metadata.
- I checked the Advanced Settings, but the only agent available is “Plex Movie”—none of the other agents (like the standalone “The Movie Database”) are even showing as options.
- I manually tried searching for “Brothers” using the Match tool, but Plex just won’t find the right movie.
Here’s where it gets even more frustrating:
I know the MPAA number for this movie is 53762. When I search for that number on Google, the correct movie (“Brothers” (2024)) comes up immediately. But when I try to use the MPAA number in Plex, it doesn’t work at all. Instead of finding the correct movie, Plex matches completely unrelated titles like “2 + 2 = 2” or “2@2”.
I used to be able to use the MPAA number in Plex’s search field (or possibly somewhere else in the metadata match process—I don’t remember exactly where) to find and match the correct movie, but now that feature doesn’t seem to work. Plex isn’t even looking at the MPAA number as part of its matching process.
For context:
- Everything else I added last night matched perfectly. This is the only title causing an issue, and I’ve verified it’s in IMDb.
- I’ve attached screenshots to show:
- My library settings where TMDb is selected.
- The Advanced Settings, which only show “Plex Movie” as an agent option.
- The poster for “Brothers” (2024) to show exactly which movie I’m talking about.
- The Google search results for MPAA 53762, showing the correct movie at the top.
I know I could manually rename the file or find some workaround, but I’m not looking for a workaround—I’m looking for a fix. Plex can be really frustrating sometimes, and this kind of issue shouldn’t keep happening, especially for a well-known title that’s in IMDb and has a clear MPAA number.
If anyone has advice or knows how to resolve this, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks in Advance!
