Plex + Android tv not working

Hello, for several days it has been impossible for me to play a video on my smartphone or my android tv. When I am on the application I can see my films, but when I launch the message “an error occurred while trying to play this video, please check your connection and try again.” My videos are available from the plex website … therefore available … My My cloud server is connected to an orange livebox 4. I assigned a fixed ip to my server and opened the 32400 ports of my box. I do not understand what is happening, everything was working perfectly and overnight nothing. do you have an idea ?


I have de same problem. I cant see nothing in my android app and my plex media server doesnt connect correctly, so my remote access is not available either.

I also have the same problem on my Huawei phone. Used for 18 months while power walking then suddenly overnight will not play any music at all. I get the same error message. Still works fine on my Acer laptop, iPad pro and LG tv.

I dont know what can i do. Remote access is not working neither

I have the same problem.

I’ve found a temporary workaround. The DLNA server from plex still works. You can use VLC for android tv to play the content of your plex server.

If you go to the system settings for app how big does it say its cache is?

(I’m assuming other apps such as the web browser play fine)

Same thing happening to me- Android phone and Chromecast with Google Tv refuses to connect to WD My home server anymore. Xbox works just fine. Just started happening … everything was fine for about 2 years!
Will have to go the DLNA route…thanks @florensvanderlaan , but its not ideal.

Are all of you using a MyCloudHome for server? Can you please check the version number of server

Software vesrion of MyCloud Home is 7.15.0-160
Plex Service version is 1.18.6.2350

I believe there is no way for me to update Plex on the MyCloiudHome- has to be from WD

Weird how it says ‘Configure’ I did all this yesterday. Anyway configured again and still the same error

afaik the min version for android to stream from server is 1.18.3 but 1.18.6 is still pretty old. going to try to find out why WD has not offered an update in so long

@g_dutacq That is the web app version, the server version will be listed the Parameters section a bit further down on left side

It would be great if an update to the 1.18.6 was made and that solves it- thanks!

But it is weird that its recently started happening- maybe something in the new Plex android app didn’t like the old MyCloudHome version?

yeah It may not be the cause but if multiple of you are running it then it might point to something.

If any of you can share your android logs and server logs after it fails to play it would be appreciated. ( feel free to message them to me )
