Plex app crashes and resets on LG webos

As i’ve seen other topics on this issue with many users reporting the same experience, i wonder how the team is going to address this issue, as it might be related to the latest WebOS update on LG.

Its about a solid years that i have my LG4 83 inch and never had zero issue with plex, but a couple of weeks ago - when a new OS update was releases - the plex app crashes/resets many times during a simple episode of 45, let alone a full movie. And dont worry, tried it all; unplug the tv, re-installed the app, different file types, no subs etc… always a reset after a sort while. As LG has no forum, i turn to plex to fix this, reach out to LG to please add something that removes the code that was added and destroys our entertainment fun.

I am having the same issues. LG C4
What works for me is to switch to “Force Direct Play”.
However I am not sure why, it seems to crash/restart itself more often with certain content.

Even that settings is not doing anything, even worse for me.

It sad to see nobody from the plex team is acknowledging this major issue with the LG Plex app. Its basically game over at the moment.

LG informed me that they notified the plex engineers, are you on this?

Can confirm this is an issue on the LG C5 as well. First the audio started flickering off and on, then the app shut down in order to “Free up memory”.

Having the same issue on a LG G5. After 20-30 minutes of movies / shows, TV goes black, no sound, plex “restarts” and the playback after this is pretty stuttered audio / video issues.

TV has all power saving features / settings “off”.

Any news? Getting this issue when playing in original quality with hdr. Lowering the quality helps

I just got my lg g5 83 inch and did all the updates. Plex was crashing bad and hard, maybe 10 to 15 minutes into a movie or tv show hosted on my nas. I do have high quality files so I thought it was my network but the Plex on my Chromecast 4k works just fine. I got into settings on the Plex app on the tv and disabled direct play and anything to do with direct and just chose 4k 10m. So far it has been able to play 40 min with no black screens to restarts. It may have to do something with “original” setting? Also I noticed that the sound is a constant rather than hiccups here and there. I had to go to bed so I will do more testing on playback tomorrow and report back.

Same on LG OLED after last Firmware Update!!! Also an LG Problem i think.

Problems solved. On the LG website, there is a newer firmware version available for my TV, though it’s from May. The version currently on the TV is not listed on the website. I installed the available version and then performed a factory reset on the TV. So far, the app hasn’t crashed once!

It looks like LG pushed a new version 33.22.65 that supposedly fixes a memory leak that seems related to this… Apparently, the issue was with some content and was happening with other third party apps including Plex.
