Don’t understand what your saying. Do you mean mkv is the problem?
No, I did not say that, just most often is (what is inside is)…
So your saying a file container as in mkv is the problem often. This does not make sense. Can you explain exactly what you mean please?
I have libraries exclusively mkv, I don’t think I have one mp4 or avi left and absolutely do not have the issue your trying to explain.
Then again I do not use subs often, is that what your saying?
No again, just read what I wrote… what is inside is in the parenthesis.
I’m going to try and contact Jason from BmB. Maybe he can jump in and tickle the plex crew to fix the issue
@anon18523487, any update? It’s been months since you last posted in the thread. I’m curious if they have managed to finally diagnose the root cause.
This has been a problem for me a very long time, when I select a PGS subtitle (which require transcoding) video are getting choppy after I’m skipping forward or backward or selecting a specific chapter. If I select no subtitle or a SRT subtitle (which stops using transcoding) the video plays smoothly. I have an LG OLED TV (C7) and plays content from my local network, my content is mostly copies of my Blu-ray movies (with PGS subtitles).
Fixing either of these items would fix the problem for me (but I strongly wish both items to be fixed):
- Make sure transcoding is working after skipping forward/backward or selecting a specific chapter; transcoding works fine when playing movie from start
- Do not require transcoding of video when PGS subtitles is used, just display the subtitles as a overlay over the video as you do for SRT subtitles
It sounds like FFMPEG introduced the issue, and Plex is at the mercy of whoever is maintaining it. Could we maybe try reverting the version of FFMPEG that’s bundled with PMS? Is that something we can do on our side, or is that compiled into PMS?
Also, hi, I have: LG OLED65B7A-U,
PMS 1.19.5.3112 Running on Windows Server 2012 W/Quadro M2000
I Also have this problem and I’m willing to help fix in any way I can.
Silence is not gold in this case plex.
The only thing that really works and i’ve tried really EVERYTHING!
Just paying an one time small fee to activate the app permanently and gives you peace without begging Plex team to fix the WebOS App for years now.
Thank you so much for sharing!
“one time small fee…”
What are you talking about? I’ve got a plex pass subscription - problem still continues. So I assume you mean a fee for some other app?
He was discussing XPlay, which is an alternative client by a Russian third party for Plex. I’ve always been hesitant to use that for a variety of reasons, but it supposedly does not have this issue.
I don’t think it’s actively developed anymore, and if you’re comfortable paying for and using a Russian service, it might be worth looking into.
What does it mean if you have a plex pass and it doesn’t work in this case? This problem keeps going for years now and there is no sign from Plex team to fix this. So if you have a better alternative i’d love to hear other that waiting for a fix in the future. I safely paid through paypal the amount of almost 8€ and solved this buffering problem once and for all. Personally no problem if it’s a third party app, if they are Russians or whatever. It works like a harm and it really makes me happy.
@anon18523487 anything on this front? This issue is still present.
Nothing new that I’m aware of. Sorry.
Hi,
I have the same issue.
When I set the LG TV to transcode a Blu-Ray movie, it will play for a bit and then starts to buffer every 0.5 seconds…
I have tried to start the stream of the movie on other devices at the same time and on the same Wireless network (5G).
I had 4 streams running from 1 iPad, 1 iPhone, 1 PC (Web player) and 1 LG TV.
All were set to transcode down to 1080p 12MBit and all except the LG TV ran perfect.
Info about my setup:
Plexserver 1.20.0.3181
iPad Plex App 7.5
iPhone Plex App 7.5
PC Web player 4.34.4 - Firefox
LG TV 55UH850V-ZA - WebOS Software version 05.30.80 - Plex App 2.2.0
Bonus info:
If I use direct play on a Blu-Ray TV series episode it runs great.
But if I use the “new” skip intro button it will start the annoying buffering every 0.5 seconds.
Plex Staff, please fix this.
If you need me to test something for you please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I recently migrated to Unraid and thank heaven I could install an older build of the PMS container by Linuxserver. Had some searching to do to get it to work, but for now 1.16.x is still working, Hope it will keep working. Until then we just have to wave at the new features we all can’t use. Really starting to lose faith in the whole plex platform unfortunately. I mean, if they aren’t willing to put any effort in this issue, what will they do then? In my opinion this could cause some loss of users…
So I decided to check out the new player again tonight. I haven’t been using the built-in player (let alone the Early Access player) on my LG for awhile, mostly because of this bug, and I have a Fire Stick with Kodi and the Plex Add-on attached to it right now, so I can direct play a lot more stuff when I use that.
Anyway, I started playing a show (with ASS subs) and after a few minutes I realized I was not using the subtitle track I wanted. I paused the video and changed the subtitle track, then un-paused. After about 30 seconds of fine playback I started getting hit with this buffering. I didn’t try to skip around weird or anything. Apparently my great sin was not making sure I was on the right subtitle track before the program was started (which is kinda hard when the Plex app for LG still does not display the Title of the sub and audio tracks, like Roku does).
XisoP wrote that 1.16.x works.
So I downgraded my Plex server from 1.20 to 1.16.6.1592.
This one works great, no problems at all.
Come on Plex please fix the problem…
Wow, I just picked up a 65c7p-u from my FIL recently and started noticing this issue. Reading this thread makes my head hurt, how can this still be an active issue?!
