Plex app on Android TV does not send proper Now Playing info when playing music in the background

To re-create the issue…

  1. Start Plex, go to a music library, start playing a song then press the home button
  2. The Now Playing card will show the progress of the song but it has a) no artwork and b) no artist or song name c) and constantly flashes every second.

Looking at logcat while this is going on, I see many MediaSession related updates from the Plex app per-second which I don’t see from other music apps.

Also, for the album art, Plex is supplying an invalid URL (eg. https://192.168.1.2:32400/photo/:/transcode…) as I don’t use SSL for my local server - and “Allow insecure connections” is set to “Always”.
