Hi all,
I’m trying to sign in to my existing Plex account via the Plex app on my Apple TV 4K. After I tap on “Sign In”, the Plex app will display “Just a moment… We’re generating a code for you.” for less than a second, then will display “Uh-oh, something went wrong. [in red] Check your internet connection or visit status.plex.tv for updates. Then refresh your code and try again.”
I have OOKLA’s Speed Test app installed on the same Apple TV, and am getting 932 Mbps down/939 Mbps up, so there’s no issue with my internet connection. status.plex.tv also reports that all systems are working as expected.
Once I then go back into the Plex app and tap on “Refresh Code”, the same two messages appear with the same timing — just this time, “Just a moment…” also appears in red. I’ve tried this multiple times and just get the same result each time.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I’ve make sure my Apple TV 4K is on the latest version of tvOS, and have also tried deleting and re-installing the Plex app on the Apple TV a couple of times, as well as restarting the Apple TV, but I just keep getting stuck here with the Plex app being unable to generate a code for me to use to sign in.
I noticed a similar issue reported here for Roku in October last year which seemed to resolve itself after a day, but I’ve already waited about a day and there’s no change.
Is anyone else experiencing this, or has had this happen to them in the past an can suggest how I can resolve this?
It’s been 3 days, and this is still happening. I’ve rebooted the Apple TV 4K several times, and have also deleted and reinstalled the Plex app, but neither of these have had any effect.
Currently, this is what I see from the main screen:
Sign Up Free:
“Just a moment… We’re generating a code for you.”
“Uh-oh, something went wrong. Check your internet connection or visit status.plex.tv for updates. Then refresh your code and try again.”
Continue as Guest:
“Error: Cancelled. Try Again.” or
“Error: The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be contacting to a server that is pretending to be “plex.tv” which could put your confidential information at risk. Try Again.”
Sign In:
“Just a moment… We’re generating a code for you.”
“Uh-oh, something went wrong. Check your internet connection or visit status.plex.tv for updates. Then refresh your code and try again.”
I also tried installing the Plex app directly onto my LG C9 OLED smart TV, connected via Ethernet. While the LG Content Store and any other apps can load (including the LG TV successfully downloading an update for the native HBO GO app), the Plex app only says:
“Network Unavailable: Make sure your device is connected to your network and has a working internet connection.”
My device definitely is connect to my network, and definitely does have a working internet connection, because it literally just used that same working Ethernet connection to download the Plex app from the LG Content Store!
Original: Would your suggestion be to change the DNS settings on my devices, on on my router itself? The error saying that the certificate for plex.tv was invalid was concerning. Are you able to help me check that there aren’t inadvertently any expired certificates at your side?
Edit:
I just tried manually setting the DNS server on my Apple TV 4K to CloudFlare’s1.1.1.1, instead of the automatic default, restarted the Apple TV 4K, and the Plex app could generate the code immediately.
Thank you so much, BigWheel, you rock!!
