Every now and then when I play a show the video will freeze about 10-15 seconds in, then the audio cuts out, and then the entire Xbox One just turns off. These same videos play through the web app, the app on my Rokus, and the app on my phone.
Monday night - Played a few tv shows no problem, switch to watch a movie and it freezes within a few minutes. Everything froze, server went down. Wasn't able to stream to Home Theatre, 360 or even Remote into my server via RDP. 10 minutes pass and it's back up. Try again with the X1 app and it freezes again. Waited about another 10 for it to come back online and went back to using Home Theatre on my PC with no problems.
Wednesday night - No one else was home / using the server so I decided to try the X1 app again, loaded up a tv show and within a minute the server froze again. Immediately shut my Xbox off and switched back to Home Theatre.
I originally thought it might have been an issue due to high stream volume / long distance streaming on Monday but after last night I kind of leaning more towards something to do with this app. Just a little frustrating since it not only takes out the xbox one app, but it takes my entire server down for everyone for a short period.
Hope this either can get fixed soon or it's just an issue with my server that can fixed easily. Really hope it's fixed by the time they roll out the 360 app, as right now using the network share for 360 / Plex is a pain and will randomly cause movies/ TV shows to play in slow motion.
Similary, my experience with the Xbox One app is really poor. The app keeps crashing and movies are streamed with a very poor resolution in comparison to the Home Theater.
I hope this would be soon fixed as my "man-cave" that was based on Xbox One is not complete...well it is, but constantly switching from Xbox One to PC is not the experience that I want to have in my living room.
I hope the app will get fixed and will work as Home Theater on PC.
Same here. I prefer my Xbox one to do everything but holy cow does it crash a lot! Always have to click retry as I get random errors like lost connection or not running on updated plex.
I’m having similar issues. Occasional the app freezes then restarts my Xbox One, but most of the time, it crashes and tells me to “go home” or “retry”.
When i play it thru my xbox one. It would crash my whole computer. Any advice? I am wondering if it just plex on xbox working out the kinks to get it working properly or what.
Yeah, I just encountered this tonight. The video will freeze, the audio will continue, then the Xbox One will just completely shut off. It happens at different points in the video, so I don't believe that it's corruption or something in the file.
I have the same issue with the XBox one freezing and shutting off about 30min into a movie. It works fine when streaming through chromecast, smart TV, web, and amazon fire stick.
The video stops, the sound makes a grinding sound for about 1 second, then the console turns off completely. I can power it back on immediately without any problem and resume where I left off, but within 15-45min more of the movie it will freeze again.
Same issue. Videos just pause or freeze every around the same time frame reported here in this forum. 15 to 30 seconds in. I haven't been patient enough to see if it crashes at 30 min in. It's only an issue on my Xbox One. ROku 3 and Visio Tv app play flawlessly from the same server. I shared my library with my friend to test on his xbox one, and also the same issue.
Same here used to work flawlessly but now either stutters or just freezes also really low resolution having to use the Dona server on my TV they works perfectly with full resolution
This is my first post, but I wanted to do some confirmation. I was having this issue as well and believe I have found the issue and solution. This was an issue that happened to me before I got my XB1 and was using my Xbox 360. The issue is with the MKV file. If you are like me you want the best resolution and full surround sound. Through various experiments I have concluded that if the MKV file has too much data coming through the stream it becomes too much for the codec/app to handle. I took a problematic file that would repeat this problem every time I played it, and converted it to MP4. I was able to keep the resolution, surround sound, and the detail in the MP4 format. When I played the video there was no problems what so ever.
So for this confirmation I would appreciate anyone to attempt to convert a file that they are having issues with to an MP4 and see if it resolves the issue.
