Plex Arcade?

I think that’s only the parsec client isn’t it, not the server (unless it’s changed in the last few days).

Ah, it very well could be. Darn…

Yeah, I don’t know either when it comes to actual implementation in the host software. For as important a distinction the difference between libretro and Retroarch is from a licensing standpoint, it’s sometimes not very clear in the documentation where the line is. I feel like I’d have to implement a libretro frontend myself to know for sure. :frowning:

Hardware-wise, it’s just lots of CPU afaik, but most Windows and OSX servers should be okay there as long as it’s not on something like an Intel Atom.

The tricky part is the number of frames of latency you can reduce with it varies from game to game and there’s no way of knowing how many without testing. I’ve seen user-built databases to try to keep track of it, but this would be a great use case for Plex.

I keep getting a 15000 critical error, unknown

This is for both atari games and a recently installed SNES core and snes pack games.

Anyone know what it might be related to?

you haven’t mentioned server OS, but this error is Error Codes - 22006 and 15000 (Unable To Initialize Encoder On Your Server) – Parsec

Good catch! Im on windows and yeah according to Parsec I can understand the error

I am just starting to try and use Plex Arcade. I have the subscription, I linked my Parsec account, and created a default “Games” library. The default Arcade and Atari games are showing up. However, when I try to add new cores, the platforms are not recognized. I have tried Game Boy Color and NES. I have copied the cores to \AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Game Cores
and updated the RetroCores.xml file with both:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
<Mappings>
  <!-- Do Not override Arcade until you know what you're doing -->
  <!-- <Mapping platform="Arcade" core="" /> -->

  <!-- Point to libretro core files that you have downloaded -->
  <Mapping platform="Nintendo Entertainment System" core="quicknes_libretro" />
  <Mapping platform="Super Nintendo Entertainment System" core="" />
  <Mapping platform="Nintendo 64" core="" />
  <Mapping platform="Game Boy" core="" />
  <Mapping platform="Game Boy Color" core="gambatte_libretro" />
  <Mapping platform="Game Boy Advance" core="" />
  <Mapping platform="Sega 32X" core="" />
  <Mapping platform="Sega Game Gear" core="" />
  <Mapping platform="Sega Genesis" core="" />
  <Mapping platform="Sega Master System" core="" />
</Mappings>

I deleted the library, and recreated it with the default settings, and still, nothing showing up.

I just used core manager to download the supported game cores and it’s still not working.

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Mappings>
  <Mapping platform="Super Nintendo Entertainment System" core="snes9x_libretro"/>
  <Mapping platform="Nintendo 64" core="parallel_n64_libretro"/>
  <Mapping platform="Game Boy Color" core=""/>
  <Mapping platform="Game Boy Advance" core="mgba_libretro"/>
  <Mapping platform="Sega Master System" core="picodrive_libretro"/>
  <Mapping platform="Sega Game Gear" core="picodrive_libretro"/>
  <Mapping platform="Sega Genesis" core="picodrive_libretro"/>
  <Mapping platform="Sega 32X" core="picodrive_libretro"/>
  <Mapping platform="Nintendo Entertainment System" core="fceumm_libretro"/>
</Mappings>

What do you mean? The games don’t show up?

Thanks for the reply! Suddenly, it started working. Had to change a few game cores around but it’s recognizing all supported platforms now and all the games are showing up the library.

This service feels like a beta. Its not cooked. Most of my roms just black screen and wont work. You cant get consoles like Gamecube and PS and PS1 to even load or see the roms. I would love to pay for this service but its not ready for consumption. Its also laggy on my 1GB connection on a high end gaming PC. This really needs work.

Yes in theory this would be awesome… but when it doesn’t support one of your “flavors” of the server, this should really be disclosed before the hassle. A buddy who has it running for Windows says it doesn’t even work half the time, so he gave up. Just stick to Retroarch :slight_smile:

you can’t get those consoles to load to see the roms as they aren’t currently supported platforms
also unless ive totally missed something… plexlabs features are betas and they are quite open about that
I agree this totally needs work and I don’t like paying for it, but I understand why we are. They have to pay parsec for tools to make arcade work, if enough people support the paid beta then hopefully Plex will run with it and make it a full fledged focus and start making ■■■■ work in house so it can be supported with local emulation (on device) and not require parsec therefor no extra cost to lifetime or plexpass subs
They need to see genuine interest in it first though to even consider trying to build their own in house version of parsec though

I’m not paying for a non-functioning service. If this is a beta, it should not have a monthly fee. If what you say is true this upsets me even more

(It’s literally right there on both of the signup pages)

Correct, we haven’t focused yet on those platforms; there are a lot of platforms, a lot of cores, and so we’re forced to step along and get some working solidly before we add others.

I totally get it, I don’t like paying for it on top of the lifetime sub or for how well it currently performs
That said I am very excited for what it can become so to help it do so ill suck it up (not suggesting you have too)

hopefully down the road it’ll be at the point where more people are happy enough with performance to pay for it and then even further down the road it’ll be just another standard included feature of having a Plex Pass

@elan feel free to do a similar trial run with books as well, both audio and text based :wink:

@elan I do not believe that it was at the time (this was a couple months ago now), and the only way I found out was reading this forum where others were complaining about the very same thing. But, I mean hopefully someday, right? Just presenting a little feedback, thats all. Still pay for Plex Pass, still enjoy the server. My complaint is the day that it does become available, I’ll no longer have a free trial to see how advanced the service has become because I used it not knowing previously.

:grimacing:

I really hope so! I know lots of people running Linux who would love to use it.

If you ever need a tester, give me a shout. I’d be glad to help with anything you need.

I’m not seeing a no
I’ll go ahead and call this future book support confirmed :wink:
