Plex cant connect to Synology from Google Pixel

Hello same issue still…

Plex only shows the message “something went wrong - try again” cant connect to my Synology NAS. I have this issue for a week now and I am seeing so many posts here with very similar issues, is there a comment by any Plex employee that this is being investigated? Because I cant be the only one noticing that many people seem to have connection issues out of the blue now even though everything worked for months without issue.

Since the first occurence I did the following things in order to try to mitigate the problem:

  • Update on server side: Updated my Synology to Version: 7.2.2-72806 Note that there are some issues reported online with this version and plex but I want to highlight that I only did the update after I already experienced issues.
  • Update Plex Package on Synology: I did the corresponding update of Plex by pulling the latest update manually from the Plex page. I did not autoupdate via package since it was not the latest version
  • Android App are already running latest version
  • Firmware Update of Router
  • Checking Portforwards on Router - no changes have been made
  • Secure connection: I went into Plex settings and looked at “secure connections” it was already on “preferred” I changed it to “required”, error persisted so I changed it back to “preferred”

Any help is appreciated, thanks

May we please have your Plex logs. You can download them by going to Plex Settings > Server > Troubleshooting and click on Download Logs.

Attach the .zip file to your post by simply dragging the file onto the reply window. Make sure you wait for the file to finish uploading before you click on Reply.

Alternatively, open File Station on the NAS and navigate to /PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server, then right click on the Logs folder and select Compress to Logs.zip.

And again, attach the .zip file to your post, thanks.

Also, if you could provide some details regarding when you recieve these error messages, such as what app/s and server/s you are using at the time and their versions, method of connection, etc. that may help, along with any other details you may think are pertinent.

I will also ask @ChuckPa (Plex Employee) to take a look at your logs, if he has the time.

Thanks for the logs and your very informative post.

I do not see any activity between your server or your Google pixel device in the logs.

I do see a lot of activity with your Galaxy S24 in the logs.

I did notice that you have some .avi files. I would advise you to re-encode those .avi files to H.264/AAC .mp4 in order to improve their compatibility and to correct some of the issues you appear to have with some of those files.

Thank you for looking into it! The Samsung Galaxy has a similar issue at the moment. But the issue its constraint to the “Home” tab. So the tab “movies” and “tv shows” work fine but the home tab is just showing the loading sign (see picture)

So both phones started to have connection issues at the same time (two weeks ago) Pixel is connecting through another account by the way not the main account but the samsung connects through main account.

About what you posted reagarding .avi files, those files have not been added recently however I am happy to delete them for now just to see if the problem persists, thanks.

If you are at home, you should be using WiFi to download the data from your Plex server, if you are not already doing that.

Don’t delete the .avi files, but by all means move them to a temporary location. Then you can re-encode them at your leisure and add them back as you complete the re-encoding, but that is entirely up to you.

I would recommend that you delete the port forward rules for Plex in your router, one at a time, and then re-add them. Just to make sure the router is actually honouring those rules.

Also check and make sure you have the Synology firewall disabled. If you use the firewall, then double check that all settings are correct, maybe even delete the rules for Plex one by one and then add them back in.

I would also recommend that you reboot the modem/router and everything connected to it once you have finished reconfiguring things.

That should eliminate any DNS cache issues you may have.

If none of the above helps, then try repairing the Plex database using ChuckPa’s database repair script.

PlexDBRepair - ChuckPa

@ChuckPa is a Plex employee, so there is nothing shady about his script … I hope … lol :stuck_out_tongue:
