Plex can't delete files from Sessions folder

Server Version#: 1.21.23943
Player Version#:

I have been troubleshooting some issues I’ve had lately with Transcoder errors and I think I might have found the error causing me the most problem “Transcoder: Failed to delete session directory (boost::filesystem::remove: Access is denied: “C:\Users\Cody\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Cache\Transcode\Sessions\plex-transcode-llvc9owv6vod4czrzsyazt5t-f9c95f8e-0e63-4139-ab70-d85e54d0882b\chunk-stream0-01393.m4s”)” is the error I get and I was wondering if it’s possible to give Plex permission to delete those files auto automatically like it should apparently

Plex will delete these files automatically, if they are no longer needed.
Why they remain “locked”, can have several reasons:

  1. a plex client (either yours or one of your shared users) is in perpetual Pause mode
  2. an antivirus software has this file in its grasp and won’t let go of it

Solutions:

  1. Never leave a Plex client in Pause mode. Always press Stop/Close.
  2. tell your anti virus software to not dive into the Plex data folder
  • do also check if your volume with the Plex data folder on it is nearly full. It must never be filled up to the brim, or you may get even larger problems.
  • Shut down plex server using its task tray icon, then check the volume with the Plex data folder on it for file system errors (CHKDSK)
