Hi,
I’ve recently set up a Plex system and on the whole it is working amazingly well…just one issue I can’t get my head around. Plex is unable to find the Metadata for TV Series ‘Luther’. I have followed the naming convention (below) but to no avail. Any ideas?
TV Shows\Luther\Season 1\Luther - S01E01.mkv
TV Shows\Luther\Season 1\Luther - S01E02.mkv
TV Shows\Luther\Season 1\Luther - S01E03.mkv
etc…
Thanks.
Did you rename the files after you added them to Plex?
If you rename files only after they were mismatched in Plex, you need to perform the Plex Dance.
I followed through the Plex Dance and on replacing on old file, Plex recognises it as ‘Luther: Series 4’.
Its really strange as it follows the correct naming convention and is the only TV Show it happens to. Any other ideas? Any way to manually link the TV Series to get it to work as its an exception?

Are you sure you have all mkv files? This sounds like you have a few mp4 files among them with embedded metadata.
These can cause trouble.
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Afterwards, repeat the Plex Dance
Thanks for your help again, I followed your steps and Season 4 does have mp4 files (embeded metadata from when I used iTunes).
Unfortunately it still comes through without any Metadata - which I can live with but its a shame because the rest of the UI is so slick!

Maybe you matched the show to TheMovieDatabase instead of TheTVDB?
In this case you must repeat the above procedure in
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
I just double checked, its set to TheTVDB and I’ve disabled Local Media Assets…still no luck
Could I please see the XML info of one episode?
(either rename to .txt and attach or post in between triple backticks (`) )
Thanks for your help, .txt files attached. cheers

Sorry, this is not the XML info from inside Plex.
Apologies, attached. cheers
Yes, this show is not ‘matched’.
Thus, the ‘Local Media Assets’ agent must be also activated under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - Personal Media Shows
I’ve just reviewed the setup under Setting > Server > Agents > Shows > Personal Media Shows and have updated it to untick ‘local media assets (TV)’. Then repeated the Plex Dance.
Luther is still not matching to metadata…any ideas?
Also my TV library is setup using TheTVDB as the default agent, surely only these agent settings would be used for matching?

They should be. May I ask what language is selected in the properties of your TV show library?
Maybe it is time for a radical measure:

The language is set to English.
Just looking into how to access my ‘Plex data folder’ - I’m running the WD PR4100 and can’t seem to find the ‘/mnt/HD/HD_a2/plex_conf/Plex Media Server/’ location it refers to (accessing through Windows 10 PC).
I don’t have experience with this device. Usually you need ftp or ssh to access the inner workings of NAS devices in general.
Hi,
I have been able to resolve this issue by using the new functionality to manually matching the TV Show. All my shows are now cleanly matched
Thanks Plex!
