Plex can't find video files on Linux

Server Version#: 1.15.4.993
Player Version#:

I have a dual boot system with Windows 10 and Linux Mint. Plex works well in Windows as it detects all my files stored on the Windows partition. My problem is with Linux. It just can’t find my video files located on the Linux partition. They work in Windows so the file names should be in the right format.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? I find that I use Linux far more than Windows so I would like Plex to run on Linux.

Thanks,
Jeff

Is your media stored on a NTFS filesystem?

Windows files are saved on a additional hard drive and the Linux files are saved on the hard drive Linux partition.

The output of these commands when you have booted into Linux?

ls -l "full path and directory where you have your files"
id plex

This is all getting a little bit confusing to me. In LInux, I have have put files in VIDEO. In Plex, it shows some files but not others. I checked the names of the files and they look fine. Don’t understand why they won’t show up.

Another issue, in Linux, can I get files from my Windows directory and have it played in Plex Linux? I have a dual boot system.

In Windows, Plex is installed as your user and there are no permission issues to see your files. In Linux, Plex is installed as plex user, plex group. You probably uploaded the files to a different user or root.

On Mint, you can remove and reinstall Plex using an override.conf file to install Plex as your user or move the files to a new directory with appropriate permissions so that the server can see them.

One more of Chuck’s How tos for the override.conf.

Tips are cheaper by the pound
