PLEX-database vs. combined files

Dears!

issue:
While adding files into PLEX-database same named files will be combined and while ticking the filter to ‘duplicities’, those entries will be found. Then user can decide which version should be kept and which one can be deleted (on windows-explorer) in order to only have one database-entry available.

But from time-to-time it happens, that PLEX will combine files which are not related to each other at all. Some of those files will be found by ticking the filter to ‘duplicities’, too. Those have to be separated then manually (options - devide).

question:
Is there an option within PLEX available which allows to easily search for such ‘wrong-combined-entries’ in order to check those and split?

Thanks

If Plex were able to recognise that it combined some files in error - it wouldn’t have combined them in the first place.

Please give some actual examples ‘what’ got combined.

Hi!

Example would be (just unreal names used):

1) correct combination
Dschugelbuch (1951)
Das Dschungelbuch (1951)

solution:
While ticking ‘duplicatet entries’ it will show ‘Dschuglebuch’ withon a ‘2’! That means there are two files combined to one! So check Information to get the details and afterwards decide to keep the better resolution ==> manually delete one file …

2) wrong combination
Dschugelbuch (1951)
Die Geschichte des Dschungelbuchs (1983)

solution:
While ticking ‘duplicatet’ it will show ‘Dschugelbuch’ withon a ‘2’! That means there are two files combined to one! So check Information to get the details and see that the files combined are two different files! So they must be split to become two stand-allone-files.

So I just would like to check complete database in order to avoid any ‘wrong combinations’.

Hope that I made the issue clearer to you now

that is exactly not what I meant.

I need to know the precise filename and the file type (particularly if it is a mp4 file or not) .

My first hunch would be this:
Die Geschichte des Dschungelbuchs (1983) is not a ‘movie’ but a documentary.
Documentaries should be in a separate plex library which uses TheMovieDatabase as its primary metadata agent. (‘Plex Movie’ supports only ‘cinema’ movies.)

Or, if you want to create a connection between Dschugelbuch (1951) and Die Geschichte des Dschungelbuchs (1983), then add the latter as a Local Extra.

Dear OttoKerner

Thanks and I will try to search the databse manually for such entries (could take a while)

What I already found out is, that nearly same looking/sounding file names (not often but it happened) will be combined and displayd under ‘duplicated files’ sometimes.

Let me wait for next found entry to grant sample to you
