Plex disconnects from qnap 451 nas after two minutes; can not reconnect

Plex will not connect to server. I can stop plex and restart and plex connects for 2 minutes and disconnects. I have rebooted server several times. Tried logging into plex from a TV and get same unavailable message. I opened Music Station and it connects to the server with no issues.

So I think the problem is with Plex on the server but do not want to uninstall and reinstall if there is some other fix. Any suggestions?

Step 1 might be updating your server.
Based on the version of Plex Web you’re using on this server, it’s on version 1.22.x which had been released back in April 2021.

The latest public release is version 1.24.2 from approx. 2 weeks ago.

If that doesn’t solve your issue it might help to take a look at your server logs – while the server is running you can access those through the web app, otherwise you’ll need to manually grab them from the QNAP’s file system.

Edit:
It might also be worth to update your player app. Whichever app that is… it appears to be outdated.

  • the latest release of the regular desktop app (Plex for Mac / Windows) is version 1.34.1
  • the latest release of the old HTPC app (Plex Media Player) is version 2.58
  • the latest release of the new / future HTPC app (Plex HTPC) is version 1.5.1

How do I update the Plex software on the Qnap server? I can not find a link to do so. I have updated the server firmware and that did not update the app software. thanks

I am using a Plex web app version Version 4.65.1 which is showing the latest version.

As for the actually installed version – please check Settings > [Server Name] > General not Settings > Plex Web > General. The latter will only show you which version of the web app you’re using – this will be different depending on if you’re accessing the server from https://app.plex.tv/desktop or through its local IP address (e.g. http://[QNAP IP address]:32400/web). The hosted version (https://app.plex.tv/desktop) is currently version 4.65.1 of the web app while the very latest beta bundled with the Plex Media Server (e.g. http://[QNAP IP address]:32400/web) is using version 4.63.0 – older versions of the Plex Media Server have bundled older versions of the web app.

Thanks. I have down loaded the latest Plex server version from qnap. Will uninstall the current version and install the new version.

So far, the Plex software update has solved my problem. Plex has remained connected to the server. thanks
