Hi all
I updated Plex server on my QNap to PlexMediaServer-1.18.9.2571-e106a8a91-x86_64 about a week ago. After the update Plex was unresponsive (showing as running in the QNap App manager but no response when trying to connect).
I have tried installing a number of versions;
PlexMediaServer-1.18.8.2527-740d4c206-x86_64
PlexMediaServer-1.18.7.2457-77cb9455c-x86_64
PlexMediaServer-1.18.6.2368-97add474d-x86_64
PlexMediaServer-1.18.4.2171-ac2afe5f8-x86_64
PlexMediaServer-1.18.1.1973-0f4abfbcc-x86_64
as they all previously worked fine, but none have responded. I finally went nuclear and uninstalled Plex on the QNap and reinstalled. I’ve tried doing this with the version 1.16 in the QNap app store as well as the ones listed above but none work.
Any ideas? I have used Winscp to go in and make sure there are no PMS files left before doing a fresh install but still no joy. I’m lost as to what to do next to get Plex running again on the QNap.
Thanks
Open app.plex.tv
Settings - Authorized Devices (left corner) - Severs (dropdown)
Remove all the old QNAP server references.
These will confuse Plex/Web.
Now, when you install, open , in an incognito window, http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web
Hi Chuck
Thanks. I’ve just tried that but no joy. I removed that PMS from the web login and logged in to each user to make sure the old one wasn’t showing on any. I’ve then tried going to http://192.168.0.51:32400/web in a private browser in Chrome (my normal broswer), Firefox and also in Edge (as I rarely use that for anything) but both just get the usual site can’t be reached as timed out page in both. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest (PlexMediaServer-1.18.9.2578-513b381af-x86_64.qpkg) as well but still nada
Any ideas now?
When you jump into the QNAP, (just for checking the boxes sake) Is it show as processes running?
if so, what are the LAN IPs involved? I get a strange feeling here.
Yes, in the QNap App centre via my browser it looks like it’s running (ie it’s not showing as stopped). I’ve just looked in the Process Manager and it has it as ‘sleeping’ which I presume meanbs it’s running and waiting to be used? Most of the other stuff shows as sleeping
I have two Plex servers at home, the QNap on 192.168.0.51 and a Synology NAS on 192.168.0.50. I also have one Plex server at my mum’s and one at my sister’s (both on old HP Microservers running Ubuntu server 16lts)
Any other suggestions as to what I can do to resolve this please? I’m having to use Emby on the QNap whilst Plex is dead!
Please forgive the tariness.
Just getting around to here. It’s 3am for me (EDT time).
I will return when I wake.
Do you have this installed? (from Dane22)
This will let you access and make a ZIP of the Logs directory when PMS is down.
Please grab that ZIP and attach it here.
Hi Chuck
I think it’s working ok now. I uninstalled PMS from the QNap, rebooted it a few times and left it a while, and then after doing a fresh install and accessing via a newly installed (ie clean) Edge browser I was able to access it and configure it. Fingers crossed and thanks for your help
As you add media (paying particular attention to Music & Photos) , don’t add too much at once.
The CPU will stay ‘loaded up’ for a LONG time if you drop a ton of music or photos on it. It’ll be a bad experience.
