Plex does not see Synology NAS folder structure

I don’t have the ability too. Unless you mean something else.

You selected the wrong one.

  1. change “Local Users” to “System Internal User”
  2. Now you’ll see “PlexMediaServer”

That’s the one you need give permission to.

User “PLEX” doesn’t matter / isn’t used. You can delete it.

This is what you want to see

@divey

Making out ok over there?

Hey ChuckPa, I was kicked out of the chat because I’m a new member and only get 17 messages I guess. So, I’m ready to proceed.

As is, I can now see my files in the proper folders when plex is launched from the Synology NAS server. When I open Plex on another device (such as a firestick), it sees the server however there is a triangle with an exclamation point in it. I can do nothing to get into it. I assume this is a permissions issue but have had no success in getting it to work. How do I proceed?

Also, In the permissions tab in shared folders I have a “Plex” option but not a “PlexMediaServer” option. “PlexMediaServer” is found under “System Internal User”, not “Local User”. Is this correct?

Thanks
Dale

Dec 02, 2022 17:47:16.148 [0x7ff6f2079b38] DEBUG - * Scanning /volume1/PLEXMediaServer/TV Shows

If you still have media in the PlexMediaServer shared library, you need to move it somewhere else. That folder is reserved for use by Plex Media Server. Do not place any of your personal files anywhere in that folder.

  1. Remove /volume1/PLEXMediaServer/TV Shows from any Plex libraries (or delete the libraries).
  2. Stop Plex Media Server.
  3. Relocate the Files.
  4. Start Plex Media Server
  5. Add the new location to a TV show library.

Plex Media Server runs under the userid of PlexMediaServer, which is a System Internal User. It needs at least read-only access to your media files.

See the screenshot ChuckPA linked above. Be sure and check the box for Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files.

Plex Media Server does not use the local user Plex. It can be deleted or re-used for other, non-Plex Media Server applications.

When you access Plex via http://192.168.50.154:32400/web, you can login, see your libraries, and play media, correct?

Can you login to Plex via https://app.plex.tv/desktop/, see your libraries, and play media?
