Plex does not see the folders content

Server Version#: DS218+ DSM 6.2.3-25426 Update 2

Player Version#:MediaServer-1.21.0.3711-b509cc236-x86

PC: Windows 8.1

Hello everyone,

Several weeks ago I got that DS218+ that I wish to use with Plex. I had already used it locally, directly on the computer. Worked well.

Unfortunately did not get that much luck when trying to set Plex on the NAS.

Back then, I spent hours trying to fix the issue, in vain. Which brought me to give up and never went back to the NAS. Not long ago, I thought I should try a reset, full reset, besides the data.

Today was the day. When the NAS was ready to be used, I installed Plex, full of hopes. But it encounters the same error. When I want to add a folder to the library I can see on the left side of the windows : / - volume1 - config

I click on volume1 I got the folders available on the right side of the window. Problem is they all look empty even though they are not.

The only folder that looks the way it is, within PlexServer, is the Plex folder. I tried something and added a music folder inside the Plex folder. And it worked! Then the music folder appears from PlexServer with the music files. They can be added and and read.

Rather than pulling my hair again this time, I thought I would ask for help.

Any ideas what I should do?

Thanks for reading.

Don’t add any content to the Plex share. That’s off limits and there’s tons of hints / notes in the folder that tell exactly that.

If your content doesn’t show you got an issue with your permissions. That means the local (DSM) user called plex does not have permissions to see the content of your shares.

  1. Open DSM’s control center
  2. Go to the Shares section
  3. Select the applicable shares and edit their permissions
  4. Grant the user plex read (and write) access
  5. Retry adding the content to your library (scan library files)

Awesome tom80H!

It works.
Cannot believe it was so simple.
I gave the Plex user the read/ write permission on every folders.
Thank you so much. I started to think I was cursed.

I did remove the folder from the Plex share.

We should now be able to enjoy Plex and the NAS.

Great help!
