Plex doesn’t work offline when I have internet issues?

As above we had Sky broadband issues here in the U.K. All clients are Xbox Ones and none of them would work as they couldn’t login with the local accounts I’d setup. There was literally no way of getting into plex. I am stunned. The whole idea of me using this setup is that I own it and its all local equipment. What an earth is the point of it if it’s all undone by a loss of internet connection?!!

https://www.howtogeek.com/303282/how-to-use-plex-media-server-without-internet-access/

that article doesn’t explain it, but I believe that each client setting must also set the connection security from ‘required’ to ‘preferred’ or ‘disabled’.

‘Preferred’ is preferred and works fine here when the internet goes out. Disabled… just doesn’t sound right when dealing with ‘Security’. Disabled indicates none, and that just doesn’t sound right.

basically what this refers to, is whether or not HTTP or HTTPS is used.

HTTPS can only be used online via plex authentication certificate servers.

so if a client is configured to ‘require’ secure connection, it won’t work without internet access to plex.

So, ‘Preferred’ means if the internet is out, it’ll fall back to Unsecured on a local network - which is exactly what the setting in the apps (mine) says.

‘Hardly Anyone’ sounds more correct…lol

I only went digging when the internet went out - along with Plex - and thought that was crazy, Man. I’m watching the stuff in the same house where it, and me, live. What do I need internet for?
