Plex downloading metadata but using screenshot as poster

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058

I’m running a Plex server on OpenMediaVault (using Docker) and have had no issues for months but for some reason now any new file I add (movie or TV show) will download metadata and posters but set the poster to a random screenshot from the video. I have to click edit and change the poster myself (they’re all downloaded, just don’t auto change).

I’ve tried moving Local Media Assets to bottom priority for all agents, disabling IPv6, optimizing database and cleaning bundles, and clearing cache but nothing has fixed it.

I’ve attached logs and screenshots to show what’s happening. Please help!

How long did you let it go. I’ve noticed it downloads very slowly after all scanning is done now.

Last night, to check code, i rebuilt a library from scratch. All the textual was down in minutes. 780+ movies required several hours.

I’ve left some for a couple of days. But it doesn’t make sense to wait as the posters are already downloaded, Plex just isn’t switching to them.

if you watch the process, after all the posters are down, it goes one final pass and “flips” the posters again. This is the actual selection step.

I’m just confused because this has never been an issue before and this isn’t a new library so it shouldn’t take so long. How can i check if it’s still in the middle of this process?

I’m asking and researching myself. I actually suspect an improvement for TheTVDB has had unexpected impact on TMDB. How or Why? I haven’t a clue because they aren’t even connected in the software from what I can see.

Anyone else got any ideas? I’ve left Frozen for 24 hours now and it still hasn’t changed. Could it be something to do with firewall or something? Nothings changed on my end so not sure why it would be but really stumped on this.

For those with stuck ‘screenshots’ only:

Hit “Refresh All Metadata”.

Count how many convert over to proper poster.
Also please include your internet service speed and ping time to TMDB

I’ve only got 2 currently with screenshot as poster, both didn’t change when refreshing metadata.

I’ve got a 100mbps connection and usually get between 60-90mbps. Ping is around 240-255ms to TMDB.

I should note, this also happens with new TV shows.

After finding this thread (Not refreshing movie posters) I tried reverting back to 1.18.2.2041-3d469cb32 which fixed the issue! Hopefully Plex will be able to figure out what is in the new updates causing this issue.

Grab the logs as quickly as you can… Save what’s there.

I’ll take it to engineering.

Thanks.

We now are onto a lead.

For those with the problem still, who have not reverted,

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Delete "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Data/com.plexapp.system/HTTPCookies"
  3. Start PMS
  4. Scan files - see if it rectifies itself
  5. If not - Refresh the metadata
  6. Report results and whether Scan or Refresh needed.

That fixed my issue. Without scanning or refreshing manually, I added a new movie and it behaved as expected.

Thanks
