Plex Downloads: Permissions error trying to download on Fire tablet?

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151
Player Version#: 9.8.2.35221

Hey all,

Encountered a frustrating error trying to download some of my Plex movies to our kid’s Fire tablet for an upcoming flight. The download starts, immediately stops and shows “There was an error downloading this file. Swipe to remove or tap to rety”. Tapping doesn’t fix anything.

On the server end, the server does keep doing the transcode for the download even though the tablet has given up.

I was able to get the logs off the tablet and saw something interesting:

This seems to imply the Plex app on the tablet doesn’t have storage permissions, but I did check that, and it does indeed have permissions. Any thoughts on what could be going on here?

Tried a few more things (different networks, phone hotspot, pre-optimizing, ect and nothing has worked). Any thoughts?

I am seeing the same issue, on a Samsung tablet.

Recent Android versions are regularly revoking permissions from apps if these permissions haven’t been used lately.
That includes permission to access the local storage.
You might want to check that.

Hi! Thank you for replying. I did consider that, but it still occurs when I give the permission and then immediately go to the app.

I am having this issue with some movies not being able to sync. I have a playlist that is 25 movies and all but 4 don’t copy. I turn on debugging for the tablet and I get the error “Encountered lack of permission on the remote while grabbing media”. I’ve tried to transcode them and still the same. I am using a Amazon Fire tablet. I have plenty of space on the sd card.

Hi, I’m having this issue. This happens for me if I select one of the Movies where I have the original and an Optimised Version. If I pick a movie that needs transcoded down to the quality setting on the Fire HD it works.

Looks like some bug preventing the optimised version for being downloaded without having to transcode a separate copy

Seems to be working now with the latest Plex for Android client
