Plex DVR, Trying to watch Live TV but get error "Unable to tune channel (no parts)"

So… It’s been over a year now without a solution. It’s now clear that Plex is either unable or unwilling to fix this problem. I’m now forced to stick with the last version of Plex server that worked with live TV (v1.13.7.5369). At some point, I fully expect clients to stop working because my server version is too old. So, I’m starting the switch to Emby as Plex is a time bomb waiting to happen.

By the way Plex, I’m using a SiliconDust HDHR3-US (your site states that all models are compatible) and running the lastest firmware 20170930. I suggest you do something RADICAL! Connect that unit to a Plex server and see it fail for yourself. Then, with the means to duplicate the problem locally, send a ticket to the engineers and have them stop working on silly useless features like streaming music and paid streaming content delivery (features no one but your board members want).

If you treat your existing customers poorly, you won’t have suckers to buy your worthless streaming music and paid streaming content crap. You’re welcome on this business 101 education.

I had to roll all the way back to 1.13.7.5369 to get playback to work. If you can’t find the link, let me know your platform for Plex server and I believe I can get you the file (Plex doesn’t make it easy to downgrade).

Channel Scans on HDHR(2/3)-US Duals have to be done by the HDHR setup program on Windows/Mac which saves the found list to the device. Without it the list becomes stale and may not tune properly.

1.15.0.647 has now been released as beta. It has fixes for a number of DVR / livetv issues observed in logs provided from users on this forum thread. See Release Note Plex Media Server

  • (Live TV) Fix for intermittent tune failures. (#9412)

The weird thing is I am able to record any station but it will not tune in to watch live TV. I can watch the station after the recording has started. Thoughts?

Thanks for the update! I will see about getting the beta loaded up, and try it out.

So you went in to the hdhomerun config and added the channels there? hmmm

This only works for the original HDHR’s, the newer ones can scan/update via the web interface. I think there may be an issue when using older unit with a newer unit, recording the same program on both units. Haven’t run through all the combinations yet to post anything.

hmm does that include the HDHR prime’s? I have two of those.

Which part, both primes trying to record the same program or updating the channel list? You would have to look at the status while a recording is occurring and if you see double events.

problem still not fixed… Now I try to play a channel and get a loading animation for about 30 seconds then it takes me back to the channel list… says “playback error” and “Could not tune channel”… server is up to date and I just removed and re-added the DVR…

Which Plex Client? Version? and if it is Plex Web, which browser and OS? And does the issue arise with all browsers?

Any chance of getting server logs and indication as to what was being tuned and at what time

Used to be rock solid, my recordings were there every day. Then about 6 months ago, recordings stopped working 95% of the time. After the upgrade it worked for 2 days in row! Now back to same old unreliable recordings. The logs show this error over and over again.

I purchased this tuner specifically because it was supported by Plex. Is this really that hard to fix? I mean it was working just fine.

Mac Plex Server, problem happens on Mac OS client, iOS client, web client in safari AND chrome. It it fully broken…

If you want logs tell me how to get the logs you need…

btw, it is a little disheartening for tech support to ask about which client I am using when I am clearly getting an error that is being generated on the server… How could “Could not tune channel” be a client? Client doesn’t do any channel tuning… server does…

Thanks for the Plex Tuner Service log extract. Would need full logs zip to see what the Plex Media Server logs show and any Transcoder errors

Please make sure you run with debug logging enabled
and download logs zip and attach when the problem arises with an indication as to what channel was being recorded and time of failure

Please ensure you run with debug logging enabled on the server
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

With debug logging already enabled, restart the server before doing any test

Try to tune a channel that should be working
Note down time of failure and download the logs zip and attach with the details of what failed and what client was being used

I created a python shim to lower -probesize value that PMS sends to Plex Transcoder.
YMMV but it works for me. The problem channels are now tunable/recordable.

I’m having this issue also. Mine does not say “(no parts)” though. Happy to provide logs.

I too am experiencing this issue. My LiveTV HDHR-Connect Duo will not tune to any live channel. Attached are my logs, and between 1:41 PM and 1:43 PM I clicked on several different channels to generate the same error amongst all of them.
