Plex DVR, Trying to watch Live TV but get error "Unable to tune channel (no parts)"

I’m going to throw my logs into the Mix as well from my freshly restarted Windows server.

I have two Plex servers - one on Windows and the other on Ubuntu server - both have this exact issue with my HDHomeRun Dual (I recently integrated it with the Windows Plex system to see if there was any difference in behavior - there was not).

In logs, you will see that I tried to tune 2 channels at:
Apr 20, 2019 13:26:25.468
and
Apr 20, 2019 13:26:53.996
Same error both times. These work fine in the HDHomeRun app.

This was working fine last year, but I have not used it in recent months so not sure when it stopped working… However, it was clearly a Plex update that caused it as there have been no changes to the HDHomeRun device or anything else in my network.

If I can do anything else to help, I’m willing. This is a frustrating issue for sure.

I’m having similar issues with PMS vers 1.15.4.919. See screen shot below from the console. Pretty much all channels are failing to load from HDHomerun Prime box

I have same issue and on latest beta version 1.15.5.994. it seems though most channels work but a few and I get this error on every device. Also it seems that sometimes while watching it needs to buffer for a few seconds and it is fine. I would think maybe a transcoder issue, but I check the processor usage and its around 30%, so I’m unsure why I have that issue. I recently installed a i5 9400f

Having the same issue as others with the latest version. For example, can pull up PAC-12 Network and USA but can’t pull up A&E which is between those 2 channels.

Same issue, just started, I rolled back 3 versions with multiple restarts. I can’t get one channel to work, while plenty others are working fine. I’ve power cycled the cable card and my Homerun Prime. I can tune the channel fine using the Homerun app. Plex just gives up.

Same here, still can’t choose some channels that I used to be able to tune in using hdhomerun prime I hope Plex address is this since it makes the live TV feature useless

after upgrading to latest PMS 1.15.5.994 some specific channels throw a playback error. they were working as of PMS version 1.14.1 . I have attached the logs with debug turned on. the times of the failures are all 5/7/19 18:57:42, 18:58:32 (both without debug turned on) and 18:59 (debug turned on)Plex Media Server Logs_2019-05-07_19-09-42.zip (2.8 MB)

I just downgraded to PMS version 1.14.1 and now I can tune in to any channel from the guide. So it appears that versions greater than 1. 14. 1 are producing this issue.

anyone taking a look at this issue? its a little unsettling not being able to update.

@sa2000 any comments?

This issue has been persistent for a long, long time. Plex don’t seem the least bit interested in resolving it. They’re simply happy taking our money for Plex Pass.

I recommend that every person on this thread @'s the Plex CTO/Co-founder (see below). I doubt it will do much good but at this stage, it can’t do any worse.

@elan - Are you there? Fancy chiming in?

I’m here, and I’m sorry you guys are having problems with Live TV. It’s among the most difficult things to diagnose for us given the incredibly varied media formats and quality (depending on antenna position, etc.). I can promise you we have people working on the feature and that we do fix things which we can appropriately diagnose; many of the logs just indicate the transcoder had an issue starting up because of bad data, so there’s not a lot for us to go on.

Sorry, I have only just seen this. I will follow it up with development. What value are you running with now ? and is it just probesize ?

(i have been busy with other issues)

Sorry I have been busy with other investigations - but I do not think you provided any logs of the issues since I asked for them back in December 2018

See my December 9th post Plex DVR, Trying to watch Live TV but get error "Unable to tune channel (no parts)" - #338 by sa2000

The only 1.15.x issue I am aware of relates to DVRs managed by the Plex Tuner Service which are in the main Hauppauge wintv tuners

Thanks for the log - we did timeout the transcoder after 25 seconds. I am looking into the feedback from @workit247 to see if our probesize of 20 Mb is the cause of the problems. It was recently increased from 10Mb

Please could you provide debug logs for when the problem arises - to see if we do have one common issue which may what @workit247 has identified

See my earlier post on diagnostics

Sounds similar to issue highlighted by @workit247 and showing in log from @joeferrante

Thanks for the log. I have raised this with the development team

Sounds like different issue from the tuning timeouts. Please look into further and if you believe there is a Plex issue, raise a forum topic with screenshots / debug logs

Thanks

It is similar to the others I looked at - timing out after 25 seconds whilst waiting for the transcoder. i am adding it to the set I referred to development to look into the probesize

Thanks

Do you still have this issue ?

The log shows the scheduler not picking up the DVR for the channels that it is processing programs for.

If you do, could you please get me fresh debug logs after a restart of the server (debug set up before the restart) and try to tune and if same failures, please in addition to the logs, get me the responses for each of these requests (amend the IP address if the DVR IP address changed)

Thank you

You could also try to delete and recreate the DVR

Please do the test on the current version of Plex Media Server - preferably the beta release

I just installed PMS vers. 1.15.6.1079 on my Qnap, most channels tune in about 5 seconds, but CNN still times out at 20 seconds. @sa2000 attached are my logs
Thanks
