Plex DVR, Trying to watch Live TV but get error "Unable to tune channel (no parts)"

Just got this error yet again (thought it was solved long ago). Server 1.13.2.5154 on Fedora, using browser client to watch. Restarted the service and it then started streaming fine.

getting this error as well on ubuntu 16.04 LTS with both the Win-Tv Dual and Quad tuners. have not been able to tune to any channel.

Further to post yesterday, the Tuner Service Log says:

ā€œSAT2IP - discover_satip_servers(): no servers foundā€

This is strange as I was able to scan the TV channels in Plex and create the EPG.

Also, no problem displaying TV on my PC using the HDHomerun duo app.

Is Plex technical support monitoring this forum? If so, do they have any comments?

Update. I deleted the location of the Transcoder temporary directory and left it blank. I also reduced the maximum simultaneous video transcodes from unlimited to 2.
Then everything started to work, although recordings are saved to my TV Shows folder rather than the TV Shows-Recordings folder that I specified - but I can live with that.

Add one more user to the list… I have a HDHomeRun Extend, no issues viewing the channels via the native app but Plex never is able to tune a channel.

1.13.2.5154
Windows 7

Just an observation though… It does take a long time for the HDHomeRun to actually tune the channel, but it does eventually. All the Plex interfaces (Web, iPhone, Roku, Android) seem to give up after a few tens of seconds. Is there a way to increase this timeout?

And for what it is worth… No issues whatsoever with viewing my movies and shows. It only seems to stumble on the LiveTV part.

Ditto on this same issue - i’ve been running 2 HDHomeRun PRIMEs since Live TV came out, with no problems. I just added an HDHomeRun Quatro OTA, and none of those channels will tune, even after a PMS restart. I simply get the ā€œUnable to tune channel (No parts)ā€ error while attempting to view on PC - on Roku, the error reads ā€œLive TV playback could not be startedā€.

What is it with the OTA that could cause an issue - different encoding/decoding for the OTA channels vs. cables?

Sorry, I seem to have found my own answer while digging. A letdown, for sure -

ā€œMultiple tuners can be added from within the Plex Web app, provided you are using version 2.10.5 or newer. Tuners should be of the same type; all OTA or all cable, on the same Plex Media Server.ā€

Just had a thought… Fortunately for me, I’ve only got one tuner that is OTA but I’ve removed it and re-added it multiple times while troubleshooting. Is there a chance that an older config is still present? Anyone know how to make sure 100% that it has been removed before I re-add it again?

I have this same issue as well but with the Hauppage tuner on Windows. I’ve reset the server several times, and it happens every time I change the channel. It then refuses to play or record anything until I restart the server. It guarantees the live TV is completely useless. I’m shocked that Plex hasn’t fixed this after a year.

Same issue with PMS on Shield TV (2017), cannot tune channel ; cannot watch live TV (OTA). The default Live (channel) app on the Shield plays live tv without problems.

I have this issue only trying to tune in Fox in ATL area, channel 5.1. This is particularly frustrating as I am trying to tune in the world cup. This error occurs consistently only on this channel, sometimes if I tune in another channel and then go back to tune in Fox it works, other times it will never work.

I can replicate this error easily, it is consistent. When I go to the HDHomerun app it tunes this channel every time, signal strength is 100%.

I’m having the EXACT same issue! I just purchased a PLEX PASS Lifetime membership yesterday and was excited to not have to renew my HD Homerun DVR, but ON EVERY channel I get the ā€œUnable to tune channel (No Parts)ā€ message. I have deleted the DVR in PLEX, restarted the server, restarted the PMS, then added the DVR back to PLEX and still no resolution. I can tune and watch and record my OTA channels from the Native HD Homerun app, so I know it’s not an issue with tuning. Can PLEX SUPPORT please FIX this? I have noticed that this has been an issue since November of 2017!!! Wish I knew about this issue and this forum BEFORE I spent my hard earned money for this. I’m really thinking about asking for a refund if it’s not fixed REALLY SOON! I’m using windows 2010 as my PLEX server.

Hi everyone.

I have seemed to resolve my Plex server issue with ā€œUnable to tune channels (No Parts)ā€. I went to the download area from the Plex website at https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ and turned ON the slider for ā€œPLEX PASSā€ downloads. After downloading this version of Plex Media Server and installing it, my channels tuned channels and started recording correctly. But before I tried any of the channels and recordings, I rebooted my computer just as a precaution. When the computer came back up, I launched PMS and it was functioning as expected.
I placed this here to help all of those who have been frustrated with this issue since November '17. I hope this helps you all out.

I updated to the new release as well a few days back. It’s working again. Looks like they don’t want to mention this in the fix lists… Beggars can’t be choosers?

I’m having the same problem. HDHomeRun Connect Quatro, all devices, all browsers, lastest PMS, even tried another PMS, still useless. I bought my TV Tuner 6 months ago and not used it once. Plex Live TV is an utter shambles!

Was having an issue with getting a few things.

  1. My hard drive (Toshiba 1TB external USB drive), was constantly dismounting.

  2. My network shares would disappear for no reason.

  3. ES File Explorer would not recognize my attached storage.

  4. I could not write to where I wanted to store my Movies and Shows.

  5. My DVR (plex) was not working as expected. It would record shows, but sit at 100% done but wouldn’t show up in my library. (When I finally got my storage figured out. More on that later.)

  6. Plex server would STOP for no reason, and the only way to get is started again was to restart the Shield.

This is what I did to fix these issues.

I did some research and found out that needed to set up my storage BEFORE I set up my PLEX server. (See issue 5 from above.)

  1. So I did a system restore on the NVidia Shield to start from scratch.

  2. Then I reformatted my Toshiba drive as exFat and am using it as USB storage (Not as the internal storage), this way I can unplug and use it on PC if I wanted to.

  3. Mounted my PC drives as a mount on the NVidia Shield.

  4. Configured the Shield to allow PC to read the Shield drives (username/password) SMB share.

  5. Forgot the WI-FI network that I connected to at one time.

  6. Disabled IP-V6 on the Shield

  7. (Wednesday, 7/25/2018) I installed a 128 thumbdrive into the Shield, and configure as internal storage.

  8. (Wednesday, 7/25/2018) I set up a writable transcode directory in the Shield (in the internal storage now since I have 128 GB now) Directory is /sdcard/Plex Media Server/Transcode.

After doing step 1-6 Plex seems to run fine except for the DVR issues. Adding steps 7 and 8 seemed to have fixed the transcoding and the DVR issue.

After doing all 8 steps it seems to run as I expect it. Last night (7/26/2018), I set the dvr settings to ā€œremove commercialsā€, and also up a recording and told that recording to ā€œenableā€ commercial removal. AND IT WORKED. So today (7/27/2018), I will set up a recording (back-to-back) on the same channel and see if it will record and remove commercials from BOTH programs. Will report back later with results.

I hope this helps you and everyone else that is experiencing this issue or similar issues. This is just what I did, and it ā€œappearsā€ to be working for me right now…

I have HDHomerun Prime, after the last couple updates to the Media Server on Windows, I am now getting the unable to tune channel error. I know the tuner is still putting out a signal because i have 3 MiBox’s around the house able to connect to it. I have tried repairing the server, uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting the DVR and reloading the program guide. nothing is getting it reconnected. looking for some guidance. I’ve seen some folks in this thread getting success in Linux. Thanks

I"m also getting the ā€œUnable to tune channelā€ error.
When Plex is experiencing the issue I continue to have very good Signal Strength, SNR, and Sym quality from my HDhomerun quatro.
I cannot use the affected channel until I stop and restart the PMS.

Similar issue here: 2 HDHomeRun units (4 tuners) Different channels enabled. Plex DVR tries to record from wrong tuner

It’s been going on for months now.
