Plex DVR + WinTV DualHD + WinServer 2012R2 = No channels found

It was a standard but I’ve installed the role Essentials yesterday

WinTV 8 don’t show any device. But this should be normal as I reat on other boards

@tdexwjgb said:
Okay that clarifies it! BTW, as I understand it, installing the Essentials Role and the Essentials Media Pack is basically the same as the other solution with the patch tool.

Yes, but the patch use files from other Windows versions and is, therefore, not officially supported by Microsoft. Also, I read somewhere else it can cause blue screens. And the patch version does not even work. I think the only real solution is to use Windows 2KR2 Essentials with the Essentials Media Pack

That’s strange. I have WinTV 8.5 still installed and did a qick test. After the start, the setup assistant was started immediately. Just like it should be. And the device is also displayed in WinTV.

Maybe I’ve tried to many things and combinations so I screw up my system

This is quite possible. If you have any backup of your system you could start over by only install the essentials Role and the media pack
Perhaps it is also due to Plex. You can try a repair install with the latest version if you have not already done.

@r4p70r it’s strange… WinTV find now my card after reinstall but still find no channel.
I’ve installed DVBViewer - it’s working fine… wtf :frowning:

That is strange indeed. I will try also to install winTV and see if it’s working. DVBViewer runs fine too…

Hm… :confused: on my sytem WinTV finds channels. And Plex also can’t find channels?

@r4p70r
DVBViewer: 361 Channel (274 video + 97 audio) (scan over all german channels)
WinTV: 0 Channel scannt 1 time with my cableprovidersettings and one time over all german channels
Plex: 0 Channel (my provider isn’t listet, so only #5217 DVB-C Germany (Kabel Komplett)

Can I manually add the Channels by editing any INI or XML?

Actually I think you could do that if you have all the needed information.
Under C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Tuner\Shared\scanners\dvbc ransponders\ are the INI files with the configuration of the providers.

I think you just have to create an ini file with a name that’s not taken and fill it with the data from your provider. The 2 under SATTYPE is the name shown in the plex web interface.

This is the default config (5212.ini) which I use.

I don’t think your problem has something to do with the configuration in Plex. Because the ini with DVB-C Germany (Kabel Komplett) should be cover all available frequencies.

Are all other DVB programs closed when you try to search with Plex? One of the WinTV shortcuts opens a folder where you can stop the wintv server or something like this. Try this too if not already done.

Which version of the driver are you using? I use 5.2015.1030.34035 from 04.02.2016 (WinTV-soloHD-dualHD_5_2015_1030_34035.exe)

If nothing helps remove Plex and all DVB programs and then, re-install Plex.
At the moment I have no other idea.

Okay, WinTV does not even find the device… I have tried the newest driver from the Hauppauge homepage (34210) and your version (34035)… Both no success

DVBViewer worked fine all the time though…

So, I think I have found the solution. This should also work on Server 2012 R2 Standard without the Essentials Role and the Essentials Media Pack, as I did not want to install these because they force me to setup a domain controller…

When executing the BDA hack from https://knowledge.zomers.eu/dvblogic/Pages/How-to-add-BDA-support-to-Windows-Server-2012.aspx, you have to select a language at start (this is supposed to be the language of the original OS where the script guy extracted the files from… in his case: en-US). I selected de-DE, giving me some errors in the script because the zip file does not come with de-DE files. The necessary files from the script\files directory were successfully copied to the right place, but the localization files for my de-DE OS were missing, resulting in the tuner not working in WinTV and Plex. No idea why DVBViewer worked anyway…

What I did now was to extract the missing de-DE .ax.mui files (kstvtune.ax.mui, kswdmcap.ax.mui, ksxbar.ax.mui, MSVidCtl.dll.mui) from my german Windows 10x64 installation (from Windows\system32\de-DE and Windows\syswow64\de-DE) and copy it to my Server 2012R2 x64 german into the corresponding directories. Then I ran the script again. Now, I think the registering of the .ax files went fine since all to-be-copied files were already in place.

After that and several reboots, WinTV detected the tuner and was able to find channels (and play them!) and the Plex DVR setup wizard is now scanning for channels since 5 minutes. The LED on my WinTV DualHD is lightning also

@tdexwjgb
Should I edit my post, which has been marked as the solution, and add your solution to it so it is easier to find?

Yes, that would be nice since a combination of both is the solution to me:

Run Server 2012R2 Essentials -> Install Media Pack

Run any other edition -> Follow the guide (https://knowledge.zomers.eu/dvblogic/Pages/How-to-add-BDA-support-to-Windows-Server-2012.aspx) and mess around with the localization files

@tdexwjgb
Ok, now your last answer is an Accepted Answer too :smiley:

Are you both sure that you first select Ziggo (474000) and then click SCAN CHANNELS after which it will pop up with the Network ID (4444 for FTA Ziggo) and then it will find all channels? Cause I just double checked it on my Windows 10 box with PMS 1.7.2 and WinTV Dual HD and TVButler both give me channels within a few seconds.

Hi, can i fill in the Network ID some other way? I’ve tried in 2 browsers, but i don’t get the question for the Network ID. I think that might be the reason it doesn’t work me. I checked the .ini files but not sure where i can put in the network id.
