I’ve had Plex DVR for about six months (along with a Plex Pass). The accuracy of the Plex EPG is poor (at least in New Zealand) and doesn’t seem to have improved in the last six months. Actually, call it very poor, I’m a bit surprised Gracenote haven’t done a better job.
Because Plex doesn’t have a grid style EPG, the categorising of movies vs shows/episodes becomes very important and this is the part that is disappointing. Out of frustration I have been using WebGrab+ and modifying the script to produce my own XMLTV file and better categorisation of movies. I am only scraping ONE source (Freeview) to get this. I have tried an XMLTV file someone else is working on that is currently also scaping a second source (TVNZ) for better accuracy. So why can’t Gracenote do a better job of this?
See below examples from my XMLTV vs Gracenote. This is from 8 channels turned on in both cases. XMLTV version has 28 movies, Gracenote 12. In the below examples XMLTV has movies on all 8 channels, Gracenote only on 3 (and all TVNZ channels).
I have thought about reporting “Gracenote EPG Data Issue Details” but think I would be doing this continually.
Is there likely to be any improvement in Gracenote’s accuracy?
I agree - the gracenote data is completely crap - surely some other company can do a better job of this - or plex should be able to import the EPG data direct from the broadcast stream.
Has anyone been able to import an XMLTV file yet? all the ones ive tried simply do not work - when the files work with the previous PVR systems ive used.
I am having great trouble with epg. Its a total mystery why plex cant grab epg from the dvb tuner directly. I don’t really care about the dvr but what frustrates me the most is that it wont play the channel if there is no epg data. That is just stupid and frustrating. The way i use it now is i have to get epg from some other channels to have some epg to be able to play so i have to remember which is standing in for which channel. I used webgrab to generate my epg with all the channels correct but than not a single channel plays even if the tuner is working there is full signal and using the tuners own app all the channels work just fine. Is there a app that would grab epg from dvb source (ota) and than export it to xml to use with plex. Anyone?

Also for some reason i am also haveing trouble playing the 2 hd channels i have which is ironic since they are the two channels i actually want the most
