Plex finds and then deletes one TV show (Log attached)

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112

Hello! I am having a hell of a time getting Plex to find and keep one particular Star Trek TV show, “Star Trek - Picard” even though all the other Star Trek shows are working correctly.

When I begin the scan, Plex first finds it and starts collecting metadata, but as the metadata collection continues, Plex then decides to delete the Picard show.

When searching for “picard” in the log (also attached) I see the following:

I’m using the correct file naming guidelines, which also works with all other Star Trek shows:
/TV Shows/Star Trek - Picard/Season 01/Star Trek - Picard - S01E01 - Remembrance [WEBDL-1080p Proper].mkv

I’ve also checked the file permissions and the “Star Trek - Picard” folder has the same owner, group and permissions (rwxr-xr-x [755])Plex Media Scanner.log (52.3 KB) as all the other Star Trek shows.

Uploading data into this monitored folder took a very long time and there have been several name changes to try and trigger Plex into finding the files. After reading this guide, I understand that this can cause Plex to ignore this folder.

In attempt to fix this, I followed these steps from this other forum post:

 1. Move media out to non-monitored area
2. Effect changes in name(s)
3. Scan files
4. Empty Trash
5. Clean bundles
6. Move media back into position
7. Scan again if not automatically detected

This still did not work. I have also tried deleting the entire library and recreating it, and restarting the Plex Media Server itself.

At this point, I’m at a loss. I know that Plex is finding it, but according to the logs, it seems to think that the files are already in the library (they aren’t) and so continues to delete the Picard show from the library.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks so much for reading this, and in advance for your help!

Try renaming them like this and do the Plex Dance again:
/TV Shows/Star Trek Picard/Season 01/Star Trek Picard - S01E01 - Remembrance [WEBDL-1080p Proper].mkv

The only difference is that the hyphen after “Star Trek” has been removed from both the directory and file names.

Also, your directory name is actually “Star Trek- Picard” (no space after “Trek”), according to your logs. Testing here, that was enough to cause my server to think it was Voyager, so you may actually be ending up with duplicate episodes of that currently.

It’s a good practice to just leave out punctuation not supported by your file system; don’t replace it with a hyphen.

Thank you! It’s now working. You my friend, are awesome.

For anyone coming in after this with the same problem, here’s what I did.

  1. I did the Plex Dance, and moved everything BUT Voyager back into the TV Shows folder.
  2. I then rescanned the folder, and saw that Picard was being recognized as Voyager with only one season (Voyager has 7, Picard only has 1 at the moment). I used the “Fix Match” feature to change it from Voyager to Picard.
  3. I then moved the Voyager folder back into the TV Shows folder, and triggered a rescan.
  4. Plex picked up Voyager, and Picard still remained.

Thank you again for your help, and I’ll take better care with hyphens from now on!

No problem, glad you got it working.
