Plex for Mac not loading - malicious software warning

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1944-f2cae8d6b
Player Version#: 1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d

Hey all, eversince “upgrading” to MacOS Catalina, every time I go to open Plex (for Mac), I get a warning prompt which basically says that “file xx can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software”. See screen grab. Anybody else having this issue?

Haven’t heard of that yet. Why does it say “The Unarchiver created this file?”
Maybe that’s the issue. Download the zip file again from plex.tv if you don’t still have it.

  • Uninstall Plex-1.3.1 for Mac and empty your trash.
  • Open Finder to your Downloads folder
  • Right click on the Plex-1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d-x86_64.zip and choose Open with…
  • Then choose Archive Utility from the list.
  • Drag that new Plex to your Applications directory and try to run it.

What computer do you have PMS installed on?

Our 1.4 release is properly notarized for Catalina. Please see: Plex for Windows and Plex for Mac forum preview releases.
