I’m sure this is a bit more involved than it looks like, and is of no priority given how much Plex is probably pushed towards more lucrative, subscription-based online contents by their VC overlords, but basically what Plex is currently missing to make it a really nice, simple and still capable enough music platform, to me, is not that much:
That’s it. While I wouldn’t mind all the MP3 metadata goodness like orchestra and solists and whatnots that have been proposed in other threads here, I’d be really happy with these changes.
Oh, and a little bit more discovery abilities for Plexamp would be nice too; finding a specific album by a specific artist sometimes takes a lot longer than it should; having to open PMP just to find out what to search for and then search and play it in Plexamp because of gapless, baby, just doesn’t feel right.
The first two are already covered by several other feature requests. This one has the most votes. Rather than splitting votes across multiple requests, you would have more impact by adding your vote and comments there.
The Plex Dance issue is actually the result of one or more bugs, as discussed in this thread.
I would also like to suggest ignoring somehow the “various artist” tag. I use also Roon which is excellent grouping albums. But with you it’s not possible. I have thousands of single artist albums for that reason. A simple filter by album name would be sufficient.
And in general I don’t understand that name. When you buy a CD collection you buy the whole one and not 50 different cd’s for each artist.
Last month I renewed my subscription to Roon exactly for that reason. Grouping compilation albums.
I’ve probably voted for all or at least most of them, quite a while ago in fact.
The only reason I posted this is to say that while I absolutely favor your “robust music library organization” proposal, the chances of Plex actually doing so in this detailed form seems microscopic at best to me right now, and that’s putting it optimistically.
Thus I’d be quite happy if they only added multiple artists (TPE1 I guess), composer tag (TCOM), and better metadata refresh options. This would make Plex a much better music organizer to me, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be as robust as Roon et al.
