Plex for PlayStation 4 v2 beta

Ok @Moussa, verbose logging is turned off, and logging from the PS4 app is turned on. Again, please let me know once you’ve grabbed this so that I can take it down.

Got it now thanks.

Thank you for the update. But I’m really unhahappy about dropping one of the most important feature for ps4 app.

Here is another discussion about plex support for psvr.

Hello. Tried a few UHD 4k movies (mkv from blue ray) over my wired network. Works quite well excepting for a specific movie, where the video gets totally corrupted for a few minutes, while the audio is working fine. 100% reproductible, at the exact same place. This movie plays fine (excepting for frequent buffering) on the Plex app for Vizio. Using a PS4 pro, the server is on a high end Windows 10 PC, with the latest version of PMS. Any hints?

First off, thank you so much for this updated version of Plex for PS4.

One of the main things I’ve been hoping we’d get on the PS4 app is the ability to play subtitles without transcoding. Will this be coming down the line?

Awesome to see a new update for the ps4! Its my most used platform with ps3 as a close second.

I did have an issue after enabling early access though. My server wasn’t being found (restarting the app usually fixed it) and have an insane amount of buffering (every 2 seconds or so). I didnt have this problem before and switching back to the old version fixed these.

Has there been an update to the PS4 beta? I was trying it again last night, and it definetly felt like the TV episode details were loading quicker. (Still a bit slower than normal PS4 app to actually start playing though…)

Any updates in regard to HDR? Really enjoying it though - thank you for the update, looks much nicer on my PS4 Pro @ 4K

Maybe I’m just missing it, but is there an option to -MAKE- playlists anywhere on the PS4 app?

I’ve used this a few times. Crashed once. Now the PS4 app won’t launch. It just shows a continuously spinning wheel. Not sure how to get this fixed aside from redownloading the app from the PlayStation store. Please advise.

I seem to be having same issue here I log in select the movie or show and the wheel just keeps spinning. is this the same issue u had?

No, I would select a user to log in as and I would just see a blank background with a spinner. I ended up redownloading the app from the PlayStation store and I won’t make the mistake of trying early access again. Is there seriously no formal technical support from Plex? This user forum is it?

@LeGritche Sounds like there’s something about the file the player on the PS4 doesn’t like. If you can get a sample to us we can get a look or pass it over to Sony.

@cameron We would love to support subtitles without transcodes but right now it’s not possible because of some platform issues. It’s definitely a priority for us.

@mike24 Sorry to hear you’re having issues. Is it possible that you’re connecting to the beta app securely and your router is struggling or something? Let us know if you’re still having issues.

@theantipop No update yet on HDR, but Sony are aware of the issues we reported and are working on fixing them.

@TmTigran Not yet, but it’s on our list.

@noelix Sorry to hear. We have some fixes for crashes in the latest release, and coming down the pipeline.

@Moussa

Thank you for the answer. I was just worried I was being an idiot and not seeing an obvious option.

How do you update the client for the test version? Is the full Plex App updated through PlayStation, or is it an internal update through Plex? (i.e launch Plex and it updates, or does the app update when you turn on the PS4)
Main reason I’m asking is that should I expect to check for updates for the Plex app in the Video & TV section of the PS4, or in the app itself?

The app is updated automatically to the latest version whenever you load it, and so you don’t need to do anything special. The only difference is with platform updates, which are sometimes required for certain changes, and these will require you to check for an update before you launch the app. We do platform updates far, far less frequently, but we call them out in the forum release notes when they do happen.

Can you ask Sony why they aren’t allowing you to use port 443 (cloudflare)? It’s kind of silly I can’t play something back on PlayStation yet I can on my Xbox. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hey Moussa, does the latest version support TLS?

I believe the beta may be crashing the server. Not sure, I just know that for the past week or so the server has been randomly crashing for no reason it seems. Strange.

@MediaHorder It might just be that the browser engine used on the PS4 uses a TLS protocol that isn’t compatible with cloudflare. There are some updates coming down the line that may change this however.

@19Adrian82 Yes, we support TLS. Although we’re limited by what the platform supports, and it probably doesn’t support all versions (as alluded to above).

@primetime43 Curious. If you can send over some server logs when those crashes happen that would be helpful
