Server Version#: on FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE-p1, running PMS v1.21.1.3830 Player Version#: on Windows 10 Enterprise ver 1909, running Plex for Windows v1.26.0.1531-92029e9e
NOTEABLE: I never noticed this occurring under Plex for Windows v1.18.0.1392-cf94f6a1
THE PROBLEM:
Let’s say I want to play CNN in the background on my 2nd desktop PC (whether or not I’m using it for anything else at the time). It seems that a few minutes into each show change, the player stops, goes grey, and simply says:
“Playback Error”
“This live TV session has ended”
No, it hasn’t ended. It should keep playing. And I believe it used to do exactly that on this same PC, back under v1.18.0.1392-cf94f6a1.
My client upgrade process:
This 2nd desktop PC receives Plex4Win upgrades first. Whenever it asks, it gets the upgrade. All of my other PCs (1st desktop, laptop, HTPC) are denied Plex4Win upgrades until this 2nd desktop proves out.
Due to this issue, none of those 3 PCs have (knowingly) received a Plex4Win upgrade beyond v1.18.0.1392-cf94f6a1. And they all still seem to run fine (though I just today noticed I’m lacking the Skip Ads feature everywhere else because of my withholding).
Also, this issue has survived PMS upgrades.
OTHER NOTES:
the live TV feed is from Verizon FiOS
to a SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME (using a CableCARD) and distributed to the network
this config was repeated from zero approx. 2 days ago due to Plex’s announcements re: EPG changes (I’d hoped that would end this … it didn’t)
this post, and the attached log, was created very shortly after an occurrence at 3:02 or 3:03
I’m available for more probing questions that could lead to an end to this major irritation. Thanks!
Now, as if only to confound me, the following just occurred…
In order to write this, I switched playback on this PC, for the first time ever, to Plex Web (v4.47.3). I let it play a different channel.
A show-change occurred at 4:00. As expected, no issue occurred at 4:02. (NOTE: DVR setting is to end 2 min after each show by default, if that matters here.)
HOWEVER, at 4:12, this issue occurred in Plex Web!
Which seems to blow up my theory that the problem is the Plex4Win version.
That makes the suspicious constant this PC itself.
And it is entirely possible that some sort of automated (or not) update/upgrade occurred on this Win10 PC around the time this problem started. But I have too many moving parts that I tend to manage on-the-fly in order to know or remember if that occurred.
Where should I look in order to troubleshoot this odd behavior? Thanks!
Plex Web has been doing this for as long as I can remember; any Live TV session ends after some random amount of time. It usually happens within a few minutes. The issue has been reported on this forum countless times already but as usual, has been totally ignored.
I don’t think they are ignoring the issue, it is just difficult to reproduce. I use Plex for Windows and have not experienced this. If you attract the attention of one of the mods they will need the entire debug log bundle not an excerpt. In most cases, the client is disconnecting from the server.
You may also try using the Plex hosted web app instead of the one included with the server which is more up to date.
My apologies if I have raised, as if new, a long-standing issue.
I initially perceived this to be a Plex4Win-specific issue and was surprised when Plex Web also did it (because I never use Plex Web).
I just want to assure folks that I did perform a prior search for what I perceived to be my issue and found nothing matching my symptoms.
