I switch from Plex agent on TV Shows to TVDB because Plex agent was miss categorizing a show. Now Plex does not like it and wants me to switch back. Why try and force me to use their agent? Anyway to turn the forceful reminder off on the activity dropdown?
I don’t believe there is.
What do you mean by this? Because if it was an issue of episode ordering that can be fixed even with the new agent.
Not to be too specific a reboot of an old show with a new name was place in the old show title under season one showing dup’s of each episode. The plex agent misplaced it but TVDB agent correctly place the show under the new title. When you are not using the plex agent then there is a constant reminder to upgrade the plex agent. Why have the ability to switch agents if you are going to remind me to switch back to plex agent?
Because it is very likely that the old agents will be phased out eventually.
It would actually help if you did share and maybe I could help you fix it so that you can use the new agent and still have it properly matched. I do this with some of my shows that the new agent screws up. Its not a super common issue in what I have seen but it does exist and there are ways to fix it.
Dexter New Blood is identified as the old Dexter by plex agent. They are named differently and under totally different folder. I feel plex is pushing their own agent to forcefully.
This is based on how the show is categorized in TheTVDb and The Movie Database. There’s been an entire thread about this some days ago. Apparently they started treating the new airing as new seasons of the old show and have changed that since.
With the new agent you can include the year a show first aired and an external reference (e.g. TVDB/TMDB/IMDB ID) to deal with stubborn mismatches.
Two things, the new agent is likely going to be the only way forward eventually like I said earlier. It is very likely that once adoption is high enough that the old agents will be killed off. Second, of course Plex is going to push you to use the new agent. It is better in a whole list of ways, yes it has quirks, but as a whole it is a massively improved product, and it is their software after all. They put time, effort, and money into it, so that they could provide what they believe is a much better product overall.
Finally, it would do a world of wonder to check the forums for your particular issue in the future. As Tom pointed out the issue with Dexter is already well documented and I think solved at this point. This wasn’t an issue with the new Plex agent, it was an issue with none of the databases knowing if they wanted to make it part of the already existing Dexter or if it should be its own show.
I’m not trying to be crummy with you either, so please don’t take any of what I said that way.
