note - debugging log files attached post crash/uninstall/reinstall
Hi - I’ve had Plex running for over a year now on a newly (then) purchased Asustor NAS. Plex is pretty much the only thing I use on it, along with its associated media library. Generally I stream music from the NAS to my iPhone over Internet, and when I set things up initially all worked fine.
Every few weeks, though, I’ll open the app and it won’t find my server. A couple of times, rebooting the NAS has been enough to fix the problem, or it has cleared up on its own. Most of the time, though, I’ll go to the server portal page via Chrome from a Windows PC inside the network (just to eliminate the possibility of it having to do with the externally-facing port for Internet access), and the page won’t load (“This site can’t be reached”) and reboots won’t fix it.
Many times (but not all) there is an update available for the Plex Media Server app in the Asustor App Central. But every time I try updating, I get a green progress bar which never resolves. The only way I’ve been able to get back to a functioning state is to remove Plex Media Server from the NAS, and then reinstall. I had read about this in another thread, and was initially backing up the library data, but each time this hasn’t proven to be necessary (just an uninstall and a reinstall restores the server to working with the cached library metadata intact) so I’ve stopped doing that part.
It’s extremely annoying, though, that I will discover this hung server pretty much every time when I’m off somewhere trying to use the app on my phone, and the only fix requires me to log into the NAS and remove and reinstall. I’ve done this remotely via TeamViewer a couple of times, but most often when it happens I just have my phone with me and the whole operation is too much work to be worth it. So I wait till I get home to do the deed, and do without my media for some stretch of time (often on weekend trips when it would be ideal to have access).
Has anyone else seen this? Any advice how to fix it permanently?
Update: Not wanting to leave the server dead while waiting for a reply, I removed the app, rebooted the NAS, and reinstalled (the latest version) to make it functional again. Attached debugging log file was created just after completing this process:
