Plex has suddenly and unexpectedly starting buffering

Hi!

My Plex implementation has started buffering every 30-90 seconds when streaming to me TV. There’s no obvious reason for this – it was running fine a week ago and I haven’t made any changes to our settings. I have a gigabit internet connection, TV is plugged into ethernet, and I built a brand new computer less than three months ago. Can anyone who can read these logs tell me what’s going on?

Your logs show the Roku TV is imposing a 12 Mbps bandwidth limit. Plex Media Server is transcoding the video to fit under the limit.

Feb 12, 2022 18:29:48.955 [12584] DEBUG - [Transcode] Streaming Resource: Required bandwidth unknown (media requires deep analysis) Changing decision parameters provided by client to fit bandwidth limit of 12000kbps

  1. Check the bandwidth settings in the Plex Roku app. Set the limit to Maximum/Original. Direct Play should be Auto or Forced, and Direct Stream allowed.
    See Settings: Plex for Roku.

  2. Plex needs to analyze your media files in detail to determine the required streaming bandwidth at various points in the file (not just the average for the whole file). This is the “deep analysis” mentioned in the log entry. The process occurs during the maintenance window for scheduled tasks.

    a) Go to Settings → Scheduled Tasks. Check the box for Upgrade media analysis during maintenance and Perform extensive media analysis during maintenance.

    b) Leave your system running during the maintenance window. Depending on the size of your libraries, the duration of the maintenance window, and the capabilities of your system, it may take multiple cycles to process all your media. You can adjust the window start/stop times at the top of the Scheduled Tasks page.

    c) You can verify if deep analysis has run for a specific file by looking at the XML Info. Look for deepAnalysisVersion="6" in the XML. If the file has not been analyzed, deepAnalysisVersion will not be present.
