Plex Home Setup with Users and Guests

Version 1.19.3.2764

I have had my kids and wife in as “Home Users” for a while now. I also had added in a couple of outside family like my mom who lives with us, but has her own TV and tablet.

I noticed though that because I have to sign into my plex account with my ID that is enrolled in Plex Pass, they can see others who have shared their servers with me. I don’t necessarily like my kids being able to browse other people’s servers since right now I have libraries for them based on movie ratings and TV.

So I thought I’d just invite my kids into my servers after they created an account on Plex.tv and sent them an invite. This worked good as they only see my server and libraries I want them to. But now my daughter is getting a message when she tried to stream about a one minute limit.

What should I do? I dont want to login to everyone’s devices (phone and tablet) but would much rather have them sign in as themselves and invite them. but not if they can’t stream.

Suggestions?

Your wife and kids should not be able to see servers that are shared with you. The only way that happens is a bug or if they are using your admin account instead of their own.

Sounds like you created managed users for your family. These users by definition are “managed” which means they are not allowed to use any device they want, only one’s your’ve authorized by signing into your account first. If you want them to be able to sign in themselves, create regular Plex accounts for them and add those accounts to Plex Home.
