Plex is going 1.0

With the news of price increases on September 29, my guess is that Plex Media Server is going 1.0 in the beginning of October, and a few new features are going to be unlocked and presented. What do you guys think?

I think you're wrong....

People has for some unknown reason been screaming for a certain number, and they have in the past been known to tease people....

My guess....They'll go straight to V2.0 :D

If I understood correctly, people with a lifetime PlexPass won't ever have to pay again, right? Or will lifetime PlexPass holders have to pay for "certain types of premium content"? And what does it mean that they "may need to adjust PlexPass prices again in the future"? Does it mean lifetime PlexPass holders have to pay again for a price increase?

Do we hear any bets on skipping V1.0 and V2.0, jumping directly to V3.1 ?

*quivers at the thoughts of even-numbered versions ?

 :D

Well, if you ever dealt with PlayOn you know that things could be changed at any time. I bought 3 "lifetime" licenses before I gave up on them. The first two "lifetime" passes were supposed to be "lifetime", never have to pay again. More services got added and the "lifetime" had to be renewed for an additional fee to keep it "lifetime".

Not saying at all that Plex will do that but ..... things change, nothing is certain but death and taxes (and you can cheat on your taxes) ......

Does it mean lifetime PlexPass holders have to pay again for a price increase?

Doubtful, cuz if so, then that would be the first time they would go back on their words.

Besides that, I kinda think there's a reason why the word NEW was bolded  ;)

meaning they may have to increase prices like they are just about to., but i would think it would only ever be for NEW subscribers. ( note if you let a monthy/yearly expire then subscribe again you are a new subscriber, since having an Plex account and having a Plex Pass subscription are two different things

As far as I know Premium "Content" is things like the online trailers which they are paying a content provider for.  As opposed to Premium "Features" like getting the Android app free or PlexSync

( I am not being an official spokesman, just stating things as I understand them )

Let's say we become PlexFlix and start streaming premium movies. In that case, the Plex Pass just couldn't ever cover that sort of expense. Hence why we're just noting that, even though it doesn't mean we have any plans to do so.

In order to get current and future premium *features* which don't involve expensive premium content, a Lifetime Plex Pass is all you need.

Make sense?

Make sense?

As clear as dark paint  :D

And just kidding.....

Makes sense, and so did the "spam" mail.

Oh, and v1.0? Remember, when you let engineers pick version numbers, you'll forever asymptotically approach v1.0. But when you let marketing pick the numbers, something else happens.

Elan,

So are you on the engineering's side or marketing's ?    :D

Holding my breath for... full encryption of PMS, clients, and streams....Maybe that way the community can stop developing complex workarounds and we can all avoid an ileak...*fingers crossed* so we could take full advantage of photo sync and such...

Should be obvious, but I've always been a code monkey :)

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!  :)

Just upgraded to lifetime. Was planning to do that anyways, but now is a good time, as I don't know if I (monthly subscriber) could have upgraded to lifetime for 74 dollars after september 29th...

I just upgraded my second yearly PlexPass subscription to a Lifetime.  Should have done that in August anyway.  There is NO better media organizer out there for any platform.  I am so happy to help the developers continue to innovate and streamline what I have really grown to love over the past 5+ years.  I am always proud to show off Plex capabilities with remote access and how cool all of my media is. (Yeah, really geeky, but so are my friends:)

Just want to say thank you to everyone that has helped me out and to everyone that has contributed to this great community.  I am glad that I am able to contribute financially to keep this going.

Thanks,

Brett

I hope the term "lifetime" will continue to be honored, and not get devalued like the mobile carrier term "unlimited", which in reality means "after 4GB of data we'll throttle the speed so much, you won't ever get over 5GB in a month".

Hear hear! :)

Yeah, Plex is an amazing media solution (with some quirks that are eventually going to be worked out).

Like Microsoft with Windows 10!  :D

Now that the price increases have gone into effect, I'm curious what releases and announcements are coming up.

Woohoo! Plex is really finally 1.0! It was great before, and it is even better now. Looking forward to what the future brings! Thanks, Plex team!
