Plex is not automatically scanning Movie metadata

Hi,

I used to be able to automatically scan any new movies added into my Plex server. It automatically collects all metadata information such as Cast, IMDB ratings, movie posters and etc.

However, since yesterday I am not able to automatically scan metadata. Posters don’t get included, all the plot/synopsis from IMDB also don’t get included. I have not made any changes to the Agent settings at all.

Could someone please help ? I have included the settings that I see on my Agents page:

What agent is your library actually using (Manage Library > Edit > Advanced)? Debug server logs might also be helpful, or at least your PMS/OS version. Outside of that, have you done any initial troubleshooting steps?

As an aside, nothing under Settings > Agents affects the modern agents (Plex Movie and Plex TV Series), so the settings in your screenshots might not be relevant.

Thanks very much for the reply. I have checked the Advanced settings of ‘Manage Library’ section, and it looks like the following:

I tried changing the selection drop-down of ‘Scanner’ but I can’t find something that seems to change the metadata update of my movies.

I also downloaded the logs - and it has quite a few data files to check and see.

Since you are using the Plex Movie scanner and agent the first screen shots you posted no longer apply to you

That is only for the older legacy agents

All of your relevant settings are in the same advanced tab of your last screen shot

What is your OS and server version?

Hi,

I am using Asustor NAS (OS is ADM 4.0)
Plex version is ‘Version 1.32.3.7192’

Does this help or should I try to get any more information ?

How many movies has this happened to so far? If we’re talking about one or two it could just be a simple case of naming or a duplicate.

If it’s happening for every item you try or this also includes TV shows then it’s something else

It has happened to around 10 movies that I have included to my server today. These are totally new movies and I can confirm I never had these movies inside my server at all.

Does manually matching work, or does that not return any results either?

I tried searching for ‘Fix Match’ but can’t seem to find it in my menu below:

Again, I tried uploading a new movie into Plex, and as expected, no metadata got updated.

Since it hasn’t been matched at all yet, the option is just ‘Match’, not ‘Fix Match’:

If that still doesn’t work, we’d probably need server logs to investigate further. Also, to get some basic troubleshooting out of the way, have you restarted Plex/your NAS and tried again?

I’ve seen a few reports of matching not working on 1.32.3, so if all else fails you may be able to downgrade to an earlier version and see if that helps.

I have a feeling that this could be due to my latest Plex update (which I did yesterday). I will try doing a restart and report back - also will try downgrading the version of Plex and try again.

I found this page to download ‘APK’ files for Asustor: https://www.plex.tv/en-gb/media-server-downloads/#plex-media-server

But, how can I download previous versions - where are these files found ? Do I need to uninstall Plex completely (and clear any caches) or (can I just install) ?

There should be some previous installers in the ‘Updates’ folder within your data directory. Outside of that, I usually go here for old version links, but it looks like it hasn’t been updated in a couple months: GitHub - axlecrusher/plex_download_urls: Archive of Plex mediaserver download URLs

That said, you can use the links there as a template if you know the specific version you want. So depending on the processor in your NAS, here are some links for 1.32.2.7100:

Not completely. I think on some platforms you can just run the installer for the old version and be fine. On others it might complain about upgrading to an earlier version, so you’ll have to uninstall it first, but not completely. I know Synology NAS’s have an “Uninstall only (Keep all files)” option, but I don’t know if Asustor is similar.

Hi, thanks for all the help. I tried restarting my Plex server (without installing an older version of Plex) - and it just seem to have fixed my issues.

I usually shut down Plex each day, and start immediately the next day. I thought I didn’t needed to restart (but it looks like a restart fixed the issue for me). I am able to scan the metadata automatically and also do ‘matching’ via the menu settings.

If I encounter any problems, I will update here again. The next step might be to install previous Plex version.
