Plex Just Ruined Their Roku App

  1. Lost my internet during a storm, plex pops up a no internet warning every 30 seconds, if you do sneak through that, shows can take up to 2 minutes to load. Why?
  2. Having payback issues with HVEC H265 Main 10 files where I never had one before.Glitchy and unwatchable.

Plex officially broke an app that absolutely didn’t need fixing!

I can’t get logged in to the app anymore on Roku. It went from showing me in offline mode to no options to log into anybody. When I go to the homepage it’s unable to load, the settings. Don’t have anywhere to reset anything, I’ve removed server access from the web app for this TV to try to force a new password entry with no success, if I go to the settings and try to switch modes from dark to light, it asks me to log in but then errors out with a unknown error, uninstall. Reinstall the app and it automatically logs you into where you were, which you can’t get past that because it’s not actually logged into anything.

I really is bad. I don’t think the coders have ever used this

I can’t get it to do anything
this is the screen. If I go to the select users option. Can’t go anywhere from there except to exit the app via the home button

I do not understand that we have paid to use the app and i am still be forced to read through what Plex is promoting to me. OLD ux i can just two clicks away to my own library. Now, if I am lucky, I would be able to land to my libraries hidden secret carousel. I want my library front and center, first thing I see, not what online TV stations or plex movies from 1967.
This carousel idea is so stale, I noticed a change on the mobile app, which I could understand and stomach it cus the screen real estate issue, I dont use the mobile app that much. But this bread and butter on Roku, I dont even want to explore, It’s messy, its not align visually with all the carousels even they are all on the same columns. It’s just bad all around.
And the far left first column has so much wasted space, and everyting is stuffed together from that point to the right. That white space isnt to rest your eyes, it draws your eyes from this media. White space isnt for UX, white space is for a poster or a magazine spread or a scrollable expandable website.

If it is not broken, DO NOT FIX IT. Unless, some genius has done some really outstanding job at Netflix or Apple that the world admires how intuitive their UX,(no offense to Plex’s UX team and creative director, Apple Netflix probably hires TOP Ux people with their shiny paycheck, no offense Plex, I understand you make the best of what you have) then maybe you can copy them. this is not innovation, this is a way to push us to go to emby or jellyfish, which i am an inch closer to do.
YOu can upgrade all you want but you should offer people to stay with the legancy version, especially you didnt test the new ux thoroughly with different users, especially users have to pay a fee. You dont want us to redo the disney+ incident last week again.

I think we are all fed up enough where it’s okay to ‘offend Plex’ with our negative feedback. They deserve it. The people responsible for this update should no longer be employed anywhere that has to do with software ever again.

Adding to this, has anyone tried marking episodes watched or unwatched. It used to be click and done, now there’s like a five second delay, so marking a few episodes as unwatched if I fell asleep and want to go back now takes much longer. Click, count to five, next click, count to five, click, count to ten

I have to agree, this new update is beyond trash! We should be given a choice on which UI we want to use! Plex needs to revert this ASAP.

I don’t like the new Roku TV App
tried for 2 weeks and still hate it. But it’d be more tolerable if I could remove all the superfluous sections from the Home tab like “What’s On Now” and “Today’s Live TV for You”, “Trending Trailers”, and Recommend on Your Services".

I’m aware you can heart/fav libraries to get them to show up. I’m unaware of any way to remove those sections I mentioned? Up the thread, there is a suggestion to disable online sources, but that’s all already disabled, so it doesn’t seem to work in the new enshitified app.

It’s either not or you have a new bug. If you’ve disabled online sources, discover, live TV etc. in your account then the sections you mentioned don’t show up.

Yeah I’ve noticed that, too. Takes ages to mark as watched/unwstched. Most interactions are now laggy, including the loading of metadata when browsing taking ages.

TY. Someone elsewhere just suggested quitting and relaunching the app. That does seem to have removed those sections. Wierd UX when you used to be able to just directly customize the home page in the TV App itslef, not have to launch it in a browser and make changes there.

Absolute garbage. I started up Plex yesterday for the first time since the update. So many extra clicks and Windows 10 bloatware garbage. There is not one aspect of it that I like. They need to revert or offer the ability to use a lite version that strips out all the crap. I only want to use my local media. I need two tabs on the left of the screen, TV and Movies, that’s it.

I just downloaded Jellyfin, I will be moving on, I hope they fix this so I can come back.

It’s very laggy, yes.

Here’s a suggestion for the PLEX team from one developer to another:

One word: CSS!

You can make the interface customizable for ANY need! What if users could just drag and drop sections of the interface where they want them (or disable them altogether)?

THAT would be an improvement to the interface. Of course that wouldn’t be too cool with the money-grubbing execs who want us to use the features that are ad supported or makes them referral money on top of the money we already paid for the service!

Forcing the money-grubbing, steaming turd on your users is the best way to LOSE your paying customers! Don’t think that cancellations will mean anything, because It means NOTHING for me to leave my account intact while I move on to another media server that respects its users and listens to them. REMEMBER THAT!

If you were smart, you would fire everyone who came up with this disaster, apologize to your customers, and use your VERSIONING SYSTEM to roll back to the version 99.99% of EVERYONE was happy with! Otherwise, if you abandon us, WE will abandon YOU!

IF you don’t take this advice, then you get what you deserve!

The complete lack of response from the Plex team to the uproar over how terrible the update is shows exactly how they feel about their customers. I switched to Emby after testing it and Jellyfin concurrently.

Unfortunately I don’t think many people are willing to take that drastic of a step so Plex will just pretend everything is fine until the outrage dies down and hope people just forget that what they used to have was so much better. They have all the power as long as people are willing to let them keep it.

I agree with all the hate on the new UI. But after trying Jellyfin many times, it’s UI is also clunky / ugly, and definitely not faster than Plex. From indexing large libraries, to HDR support. But, I am considering deploying Jellyfin side by side and see if my users like it better. One thing I know I like better is the ability to use your SSO for authentication.
