I uninstalled Plex and went back to emby
I agree with everything you said, but the worst part in my opinion is how awful the Live TV UI is now. I have a HDHomerun tuner and added it to Plex for Live TV. Previously while watching a channel, I could hit the back button on my Roku remote to see the channel listings and could hit back again, or the direction buttons to select a āhide guideā button on screen. Now when I hit the back button, the listings appear, but there is no simple way to get rid of it and continue watching whatās playing live from the tuner. Also the guide is much worse than it had been. Favorite channels used to have their own tab, each serverās tuner had its own tab, and there were categorized tabs. The new layout is not nearly as useful, itās a major step backward.
Agreed on all points, a truly horrible āupdate.ā I certainly hope Plex reverts this horrible UI in the next update for Roku.
Agreed, this new interface is a mess. Just installed Jellyfin myself. Looks like there are several methods to migrate my carefully curated library. 2000+ movies I had spent time getting organized into over a dozen libraries only for this to happen. If there is no revert option Iāll be leaving Plex, and until then off to Jellyfin I go to start organizing it all again.
Iāve cancelled my Plex pass and Iām enjoying Emby. This aggression will not stand.
I have 20, and they suck to navigate. They are also now āout of orderā from what they were before the āupdateā
Itās not a āyou problemā itās a UI problem.
My kid has a Roku and they installed Plex on it. I had seen the criticism on here, but never used the Roku app before. I was hoping that going in without the bias of previous Roku client experience would give me a better opinion than yāall.
Wow was I wrong. This is one of the worst UIs Iāve ever seen. The things you want to see are difficult to get to, itās slow AF, my users couldnāt see any libraries, and just about everything is buried in weird places and behind more clicks than the UI on my Shield.
I could not hate it more, and I hope the Plex folks listen to the users and rollback this steaming pile of crap. Otherwise I will definitely be trying emby or jellyfin.
Where have they moved the option to retry the connection to your Plex server? Sometimes it gets upset and falls back to a Relayed Connection, but in the old app, I could just get it to retry then it went direct. Now I canāt find that option at all!
Yep. And the arrogant devs refuse to roll backā¦. If it aināt broke donāt fix it⦠Why is that so hard to understand?⦠We arenāt gonna use plex for what our streaming devices do already: provide various internet media streaming services. Let us TOTALLY forgo the home screen if we want (āhome screen on/off?ā), and let us just have the landing screen be a tab for our movie library, TV shows, etc.
It says that āfavorited librariesā show on the home screen but they donāt!
5 years ago I thought I had found a solution for managing our family media library. Given the latest update, even if they roll back or allow more home screen customization, the manner in which the developers have responded to consumer complaints indicates that I need to start looking for a different long-term option like emby or jellyfin. I will give emby a try first when I have a couple of days I can devote to setting up the folder / file structure for that platform. As an aside, this situation reminds me of what happened with the beverage company Snapple in the early 90s, who at one point in time held a competitive advantage in the boutique beverage industry, but lost that advantage because they could not keep up with market changes and consumer preferences. For more recent examples, Bud Light and Cracker Barrell comes to mind. Plexā popularity grew not because of the access provided to free programming with ads (there are so many different ways to access this type of programming, so Plex is not really fulfilling a need with these services), but because of individuals who wanted easy access to their massive dvd and BD library, including remote access; with a UI that makes navigating large electronic libraries efficient and easy. While one could argue that the new UI is good for small screen navigation like cell phones, the changes to the app used by the Roku TVs is terrible. You can see thousands of negative comments on many different forums. Companies that refuse to be nimble and pivot to keep their customer base satisfied lose market share to the competition, or signal that there is a gap in an available market that is just waiting to be filled. If anything, it will be interesting to see what happens over the next six months . . .
I canāt believe this post has not been seen by very many, but Iāll throw my vote here. The āNewā Plex is absolutely horrid, slow and useless now. I really hate the extra clicks to get to where you want to go and bad organization of the app now, but try teaching an 94 year old mother this new stupid UI.
Add a vote for a roll back of the UI, it probably wonāt matter to the higher ups, but might as well give Plex more numbers on the crappy new design to count. Iām looking into Emby and Jellyfin now.
Plex doesnāt care about elderly people or little kids who have learned the UI and then have to deal with a terrible change. They are just pushing their own streaming agenda bringing all that ad supported free stuff into the app. There are plenty of other apps for that, we want Plex for our own media libraries. Plex has either completely forgotten that, or hasnāt and just no longer cares. All I know is I am glad I am a free user and never gave Plex a dime and I would suggest anyone else upset with this forced update not pay for a Plex Pass either.
Add another vote for this app is horrible. I like innovation but this is many steps backwards.
Iām in agreement with everyone here. This UI update is clunky and almost unusable. Iāve been a plex user for over 10 years and this is the first time Iāve been so unhappy with an update that I am considering dumping Plex unless they roll back.
I just installed Jellyfin
its so fast and works great. Too bad Plex had to ruin this once great tool.
My partner has started watching content we own on our server on other online platforms just so they donāt have to use the Plex interface.
Having playlists under libraries is also awful, I have to know what library a playlist includes to find it? Awful.
Iām slower in the fact I had flawless 4k HDR DirectPlay not its crap I can only get it semi stable by letting it transcode to 1080p. This is 20Mbit content on a Gbit wired LAN.
You would think with all the complaints about their garbage new Experience app they would at least listen itās like the old sayin if aināt broke donāt fix it with all the people in the world who know about coding and app delevelopement why canāt someone just clone the plex app and just release it makes no sense I had to contact someone from plex using billing other wise no one will ever answer I have to find another solution for a cloned version plex app their new experience app is one of the worst.
Everyone, please go to this thread and vote. Maybe theyāll hear us if we do.
I totally agree with you, just brought it up to shuffle all of my music on my Roku tv and surround sound system and it took me about ten minutes to figure out how to play my music collection. Dahhhhh.
