Plex keeps crashing on Samsung TV

Plex regularly freezes on my TV during playback. It doesn’t happen every time but it’s frequent enough to be annoying. It will randomly freeze during playback and won’t respond to input. I have to force out of the app and reopen it.

The new background images on the home screen too (that appear in top right when hovering over media) will occasionally become boxy (square) and not blend like its suppose to.

TV Model: UE55KU6020K

Edit. 24.11.21
Last update broke it entirely, now plex doesn’t even open on my TV.

Your TV is fairly old at this point and likely not anywhere near up to date enough to run Plex smoothly. It looks to me that your TV was released in 2016 making it almost 6 years old at this point. I would invest in something like a Chromecast with Google TV or an Nvidia Shield to go back to an excellent experience. Unfortunately TV manufacturers already notoriously cheap out smart features and the support for them, on top of that you have quite an old TV standing in your way also.

Its always been very smooth before, the issue only started recently and now during the last update it won’t even open plex. The TV may be 6 years old but that’s not all that old and I don’t see why they should end support for it.
I’ve used plex happily for years, this is a real pain in the backside for it to suddenly stop working.

It’s absolutely an issue of Samsung not properly supporting their TVs. Read this article I’m posting so you can see what I’m talking about. Save yourself the headache and get a little streaming device and you won’t need to worry about it anymore. On the low end the Chromecast with Google TV is phenomenal, on the high end the Nvidia Shield Pro (not the tube, the tube is garbage) is the best Plex client on the market currently.

Yeah I saw that update about the Tizen Cert change back in September, made sure back then to change my TV client to work from insecure connection on same network as server and all worked smoothly. Its only the last couple weeks it’s been occasionally playing up and freezing.

Oh well, looks like I’ll be buying a chrome cast.

Cheers!.

Yeah, it seems that very temporarily kept some of those devices working and things got progressively worse as time went on. I think you’ll be impressed with how good that Google TV Chromecast is. Happy holidays friend!

I look forward to testing it out. Thanks for your help. Happy Holdiays to you too pal!!

FYI, there was an update earlier today to address hanging during startup. You might delete/re-install to make sure you’ve the latest version.

I should have updated post.
So I deleted and reinstalled earlier today and after about an hour it started working. It now opens and plays media again. It’s crashed once but atleast for the moment it’s playing media.

Thanks for the update anyway, good to know they’re on top of it and support around here is still good. Didn’t know they had actually released another update today (fast work)

All the Best!!
