Plex library suddenly not showing despite working yesterday and no system changes

Plex Media Server Lofile v2.zip (12.5 KB)
preferences.zip (893 Bytes)

First of all: Thanks a lot for your help!

  1. I’m not sure what you mean by that? Which file exactly should I backup and empty? The log file? I deleted that and re-attached it here after a fresh start of the plex server, this time after 5 minutes.

  2. Although three Ethernet adapters are listed, only one is connected (192.168.1.160). The other two ports are not physically connected. If I remove the other two adapters from the preferences.xml, there is no change, as expected.

  3. Confirmed

  4. http://192.168.1.160:32400/web is the address I connect to. The connection works. I select my user account (primary user) and I am logged in. I see my profile picture and can access the settings. However, all the important settings are missing, as in my screenshot above.

  5. Although I am logged in to the user interface, I cannot access the Server Settings > Network setting.

  6. I adjusted the preferences.xml (removed all adapters and replaced them with “192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0”). No change, but the login itself worked before.

Have to get your server claimed.

If I may assist ?

I see you are using DSM .

I looked at your Preferences.xml. The Token field is empty. If you edited this – thank you. If it’s really blank then this is why the server cannot connect.

To remedy this, the Package (SPK) file contains everything needed to reattach your server to your account.

Here are the instructions, with screenshots

Please advise your results.

Thank you very much. You are my hero(es) of the day!

The token field was indeed empty. Why? I have no idea.

However I followed the instructions (FAQ 31) step-by-step and it worked perfectly for me. After that I just had to re-connect the existent user to my PLEX account and that was it. Again - thank you very much!

A win!

i’ve got same error logs
un 07, 2025 10:27:47.756 [7404] WARN - [HttpClient/HCl#65] HTTP error requesting POST https://plex.tv/api/v2/pins?strong=true (60, SSL peer certificate or SSH remote key was not OK) (SSL: no alternative certificate subject name matches target host name ‘plex.tv’)

I might have updated my plex server version while connected in another country with a vpn.
I turned it on again and suddenly i got access to my plex.
But it lasted one week only, i have again that empty library or forbidden access to my plex server that is on my computer.
I’m trying to understand how its various tokens are functionning

I fixed my problem.
In my case it works again doing the following steps :

  • Stop the server
  • Disable ipv6 on my network adapter
  • Use google dns on my network adapter
  • Delete every regedit keys for my window user running plex (but not custom localDataPath)
  • Restart the server and open plex (on localhost)

i’m not sure ipv6 is really needed but the dns is mandatary (using my local provider or even cloudflare i had the problem)

Update : I also updated plex to the lastest version
@Frag127 maybe it could help you ?

No reverse proxy or pi-hole. So why does PMS work on Window and not Linux?

Rasbian OS was listed as supported before I signed up for a lifetime subscription just prior to the new version was released.

Had same problem of server disappearing sudently last week, tried everything suggested, server on WIN11 pc.

Couln’t claim, so finally removed server from authorised deviced and uninstalled/reinstalled plex server; from now on i’m stuck on the localhost browser page launched by the server app.

Don’t post your tokens or claim tokens!

At this point we are troubleshooting the OS DNS.

Lets try a fresh set of logs, restart the Server and wait 5 minutes. Use the browser app to the Server and download the logs from Settings > Manage > Troubleshooting.

If your server is still unclaimed, zip up the contents of the
$PLEX_HOME/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs directory and add them here.

Paste the contents of your /etc/resolv.conf file.

I seem to be back up and working (for now).

  1. Stopped the PMS
  2. Removed authorisation for the server
  3. Manually edited the Preferences.xml file and removed the following:
    a) PlexOnlineToken
    b) PlexOnlineUsername
    c) PlexOnlineMail
    d) PlexOnlineHome
    e) secureConnections
    f) AcceptedEULA
    g) PubSubServer
    h) PubSubServerPing
    i) PubSubServerRegion
  4. Ran the UserCredentialReset script to claim the server
  5. Opened localhost:32400 and confirmed it was running correctly again.

Like I’ve said all along issue is with Plex not my system setup. No system changes, only Plex config.

My server being unsusable even after uninstall/reinstall i finally setup a new server from a Win11 computer yesterday (from work), brand new installation, only install plex server and i could setup a new server successfully (work network)

Come back home, boot the computer and server is gone/not launching again !

I’m about to go offline for the night (03:00 here)

Please check your logs for SSL peer certificate errors.

Attach full ZIP please (settings - server -troubleshooting - download logs) if you see any

I am seeing them in my logs.

Can’t see any SSL errors but here’s my experience so far since issue appeared:

  • After server “disappearing” i tried removing it from authorised devices, uninstalled/reinstalled but was stuck on plex logo, web interface couldn’t load.

  • As server hardware was getting old, i backuped the database and put togehter a new server hardware-wise; from my work network I installed fresh Win11 and plex server; server was up and accessible.

  • Came back home with new server, plugged ethernet fixed ip adress an opened/forwarded port 32400 but server wouldn’t start; the localhost web page didn’t show me server settings at all

  • Plugged android phone via USB and shared connection and unplugged ethernet, this make the server appeared finally; restarted and plugged back ethernet and server was still there

  • Since the server switches between accessible/inaccessible to external devices, sometimes it is accessible from web interface on another computer on local network and sometimes not; when logging in androids apps libraries cannot be found at all; tried removing every devices in “authorised devices” and relogging but apps can never see the libraries.

  • Tried messing with dns settings, both on server itself or on router, tried ISP dns, 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8 but the server is still unusable

EDIT: Have confirmation it’s bouygues telecom ISP that is actively blocking plex servers to operate, even plex download page is blocked.

Can make it work for now by changing dns in box settings AND rebooting the box, phone assistance can’t make anything and tells me it must be considered piracy usage…

EDIT: Worked few hours with 1.1.1.1 dns and port 32400 then port it was apparently blocked by isp, client starting not being able to connect again

Put server in DMZ and changed to port 54216 it it was back on track (with redirection in box settings 54216 → 32400 local) but for how long…

Could plex team contact Bouygues telecom ISP in france to stop this please

So, I had the same issue (only thing I did was to change the login credentials) and this here helped for sure. That’s great, but why is this happening in the first place. You need to want and be able to make your hands dirty to resolve the issue – aka find the Preferences.xml and edit it. Stopping PMS before then restarting it. My grandma wouldn’t have been able to do that. :anxious_face_with_sweat:
