Plex link on Synology DS918+ Diskstation Manager no longer opens Plex server

Hi All,

New to plex in the last 6 months, eventually decided to build a decent server and now have the Synology DS918+ Everything working great still, however I decided to upgrade my router as it was a bottleneck for my network.

Plex server still operating perfectly, however even after upgrading to the current version of Plex server ( Version 1.18.8.2468) I can’t access my server using the PMS link within Diskstation as I could prior to switching out the router. I can access the server using the LAN IP address and 32400 port; but I’d like to be lazy again and just click on the PMS icon on DSM desktop in web browser. The icon uses my quickconnect link and the right port but just isn’t working.

What am I missing to link this up again?

Everyone seems to be ugprading their modem/routers and having problems with Synology.

Check the DNS and gateway address settings in the Synology which forward to the modem/router.

If your computer is DHCP but Synology is static IP, this is a good indication you need update it too.

Thanks @ChuckPa

Those settings all look correct and the DSM desktop link points to quickconnect id and correct port -

**.synology.me:32400/web

Synology IP isn’t static and computer accessing it is DHCP

There’s the likely problem **.synology.me:32400/web

Does PMS know about the domain?

That link is adaptive. I give it to Synology as a cgi link (URL root is their control and port/suffix is my control).

Since they’re adding **.synology.me, it sees you as remote.
Plex will therefore also see you as remote.

If Plex doesn’t know what that address is, it will be ignored .

When was the domain added?

I tend to log into DSM using quick connect, the plex icon in DSM desktop previously worked this way.

The domain is the quick connect prefix, which then points to the correct port.

I will try logging in later via direct IP address to see if the link then works.

It still wont resolve why it’s no longer working with quick connect…no problems if not, as access is perfect to the server using the direct IP address and port.

I’ve found the *.synology.me works great for Synology-related when remote desktop to it.

When it comes to Plex, I use the Plex method (app.plex.tv). It isn’t constrained by Synology’s bandwidth limits.

Thanks for your help @ChuckPa

Just tried directly via the IP and link to server works perfectly…still learning. Thanks for your patience.
