Plex Live TV & DVR support for AVM FRITZ!WLAN Repeater DVB‑C

Dear Plex team,

would it be possible to also support the AVM FRITZ!WLAN Repeater DVB‑C receiver with your Live TV & DVR feature.
This receiver is a wide known and used one in germany.

Thanks
Basti

The Fritz!Box and Fritz!WLAN DVB-C Tuners are already compatible via TVHeadend & tvhProxy:

I’ve been using 5 of them for around one month now and it works beautifully. They replaced my previous HDHomeRun Expand.

Great. Thx!

Hallo Plex team,
to support the german AVM FRITZ!WLAN Repeater DVB‑C receiver cable-TV tuner would be great!

My scenario:

3 different PMS
1 AVM Fritz!Box 6490 Cable (4 tuners)

Plex told me that using one tuner device for multiple PMS is not supported (although it works in principle). So I bought 2x “AVM FRITZ!WLAN Repeater DVB-C” for 150€ in order to have three tuner devices - one for each PMS.

AVMs 6490 is “community-supported”, but I realized (too late) that the fully compatible AVM repeater is not. Of course, I should have looked into this before buying them, but I saw no reason why the DVB-C in the repeater device should not be supported also.

I really hope that this changes. Please add support for these devices. I’d be happy to help with doing it… I would be willing to send one of these devices to somebody developing this for testing purposes.

I would be happy if development on this one could go on.
I have a couple of repeaters lying around here which work beautifully with other software, but Plex is ignoring them - not finding them (even not with IP address added manually).

@rossinior I use 5x DVB-C Repeaters without an issue with TVHeadend + tvhProxy in Plex. Official support would be nice, however then you have the problem that all AVM DVB-C products only support one stream per IP, ergo you could only use one tuner per Repeater instead of two (same for 6490 and 6590, 1 stream instead of 4).
With TVHeadend you can give each Tuner its own IP so simultaneous streams/recordings do work.

Thank you, but not the solution I want. I simply don’t want to use anything else except my QNAP server and the AVM equipment.

So, while I am sure, the other software solution works like a charm, I would prefer direct Plex support.

Thx again.

If it wasn’t clear I’m saying when Plex adds official support for AVM products you still have a subpar solution because you can only have one stream per IP for each Repeater/DVB-C product. It’s an inherent limitation AVM implemented. I can tell you right now that proper support without third party software will never come.

Also you can install TVHeadend + tvhProxy on QNAP just fine.

Thank you again… I was not asking for any TVWhatEver solution, nor was the thread initiator.
So please do not keep repeating yourself. You said it now three times in this thread when others ask for basic support for the Fritz Repeaters within Plex. Your first post was very clear and helpful information (which anybody can still find). The rest (now) is just distraction from the topic. Please read the topic of the thread.

So, let’s start discussing how basic Plex support could happen for the Fritz DVB-C repeaters (as is already been given for the Cable routers of AVM)…

Basic support for the AVM DVB-C Repeaters is already working (as said just like with AVM Modem/Router models it is limited to one stream/tuner)… Check your setup, my Repeaters are recognized by Plex. Here are multiple other customers where it is working:

Just for you I’ve checked this again and my DVB-C Repeaters are recognized:

So must be something with your network and possibly even firewall config. Do you have the newest beta server version installed?

?
LAN… one DVR is already configured (the Cable Router). This one is recognized when searching for DVRs.
Two additional DVB-C repeaters are NOT recognized by the same PMS. It doesn’t matter if bridged via W-LAN or cable-connected to the same switch as the PMS. All three devices (router, 2 repeaters) are on the same sub-net.
No firewall on the LAN device of the Windows PMS.

How are your repeaters connected to your LAN? Cable or W-LAN bridged?

Most actual beta version of PMS installed.

All my AVM DVB-C Repeaters are connected via LAN and not W-LAN bridged. Make sure they are up to date with Fritz!OS 7.04.
Try restarting PMS and then immediately search for the repeaters under app.plex.tv/web, NOT via the local Plex Web (which is an older version).

Thank you… I connected ONE DVB-C repeater via LAN, assigned a static IP address to the LAN interface and disabled the wireless network. The firmware of the device is 7.01.

The web interface of the repeater is available I can connect to the Live TV channels of the repeater by downloading the DVB-C m3u list via the device’s web interface and playing that via Windows Media player (from a Windows laptop in that same LAN). So, it is basically working:

When trying to add the device to Plex as a DVR, the following happens:

I tried this multiple times, restarting the DVB-C repeater, restarting PMS server… no effect.

When W-LAN-bridging the device, it is not available at all.

Unfortunately, I cannot say that it works. The 6490 Cable router works like a charm on the same PMS. I have it already configured as a DVR and want to add multiple DVB-C repeaters as additional DVR devices.

Any opinions? Anyone from Plex? Or from the Community Support “team”?

What strikes me (and can be seen from my screenshots), I get the error when I click the button to activate “inofficial tuner”. I already have the “Fritz!Box 6490 Cable” router set as (working) DVR, which is also the same type of device (community support). maybe Plex tries something which has already been done when activating the first device and fails to do a second time?!

Maybe somebody can try and help me analyze the problem… possibly fix it
