I would like to surf channels, going up or down…and being a sports fan, I would like to flip back and forth between games/channels.

It would be nice to have an option to cycle through channels without first having to return to the guide. Also I would like to be able to use an IR remote as more than just a glorified wireless mouse when using the desktop app. I have a HTPC that I’d like to just run a Plex server/player on since Windows 7’s Media Center is now defunct instead of having to go through a bunch of tweaking to get something like Kodi to do when Plex could effectively do it all.
I would like to have a program guide button while watching a show. I just moved over from Windows Media Center and having the program guide available while watching a TV show was really useful. It was easy to see if I wanted to change to a different show.

Agreed this would be a great feature for those of us using Plex live TV with an OTA tuner.

I would like this feature too. The simple things like channel flipping live TV is what I like.
An even better approach would be to allow users to map the remotes controls in the app for them selves. This would benefit Live DVR users and a much larger user base.
In addition to going back, it would be great if it continued recording the previous channel so if you are flipping back and forth you could then rewind. This is available on many cable DVRs and is great when switching between sports where you might catch the end of a play and want to go back and see what you missed.

For example with continuous watching of one channel and previewing either text or a miniature of the channel you’d be about to switch on.
Yes, please! This is a great feature from FuboTV. Especially since Plex doesn’t have a mini guide at the moment.

voted! and sorry to pile on… can we also use channel up/down to navigate(page up/down) through the guide? and lastly, a better way to somehow get back to the current channel when in guide..

this would cut on the time it takes to find a channel massively. it works on plutoTV but i need a roku for that
yessssss pls. sometimes you just want a traditional TV experience and there’s no way to surf channels like in the old days!
Plex keeps adding all of these new, add supported TV channels, but when watching my servers Live TV channels or these add-supported channels, there is no way to flip back and forth between two channels.
I know that there is a request to add a ‘channel recall button’ that would allow users to flip between the two most recent channels without going out to the guild to select the channel you want to go back to, so I would like to know when something like this is taking so long to implement? It sure would have come in handy during the past football season.
Certainly! Currently, changing channels on Live TV isn’t very convenient. We want to be able to switch channels by their numbers, use the up and down buttons to navigate through channels, and have the option to go back to the previous channel we were watching. Depending on the platform, it would be great to have extra features for easier channel surfing.

In fact. Plex should do a simpler way to change channels in ‘Live TV’ menu. Like change channel in ‘one click’. It will be welcome in Smart TV’s and PC’s.
In my Roku system I need to click in 3 buttons to change from a channel to another one (back, down and ok).

I primarily use PMP on Windows 8.1 with a Logitech Harmony hub and remote control. While the live TV is great, it is missing functionality to change the channel while using a remote. It would be great if we could at least get a channel up/down keyboard shortcut for changing channels. It would also be great if we could enter channels via the number pad. Hell… while you’re at it, maybe even throw in a “last channel” shortcut.
With the grid guide being noticeably absent from Windows PMP, adding some shortcuts would useful in the short-term to get us through until it is available. It’s likely needed regardless of the grid’s timeline as it is the preferred mode of viewing for channel surfers.
This should be for ALL platforms that currently support Live TV (and for those that will in the future) not just PMP.
I’m trying to replace Windows Media Center and I just don’t see it as Live TV at this point. This seems more like scheduled TV, where you search and pick things you want to watch later in your list of content.
I’m still playing with it, but I feel like the guide, entering channels and Up/Dn options are all critical missing requirements. So it seems really hard to use as a cable replacement. Lets face it if this is sitting in my living room right now and anyone came over to visit, I doubt they could figure out how to watch TV at all.
Add the ability to switch live tv channels using the channel up and down button, such as the ones on the fire stick. Currently the experience is to go back to the guide and scroll to the channel, but having the ability to “surf” channels using the channel up and down buttons would be a lot easier in some circumstances and would provide a more traditional TV feel.
