I downloaded the Plex app for my Xbox One, I got it wrote my Username and Password, and now i just see a a screen with a spining orange circle, what to do???
I looked further and i think the problem is the Remote Access.
I went into the settings and it showed:
“Not available outside your network Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network.”
Yes, this is the culprit
See here for some troubleshooting: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200484543-Enabling-Remote-Access-for-a-Server
Basically you have to forward the Port of PLEX in your router to your Server-PC.
Basically you have to forward the Port of PLEX in your router to your Server-PC.
And check the box in the server settings for the port you forwarded, without that the server will still attempt the automatic method which uses any available random port.

I have no idea how to do this port forward things, can you explain me (easily) how?
Thanks ![]()
This is a little bit hard to to explain as you have to configure your own router.
- as @jmckee wrote check the box in settings => server => remote access to manually specify a port (standard is 32400)
- Then you have to look up the IP Address of your PC where the plex server is installed
- Now go to your router and create a new port forwarding of this port (32400) to the IP of your server PC
for 2) you will easily find this via google
for 3) just look into the handbook of your router. It´s actually a pretty standard task to forward a port

** But i have a lot of things to add, not what you just said, take a look of the screenshot i added

Hi
I am not completely sure if “Modify a Virtual Server Entry” refers to port fowarding, because I am missing the inbound and outbound port setting (normally you can set a port which is visible from the outside and then to what port it translates on the inside of the network)
But if this is correct use the settings:
Service Port: 32400 (and speficy this one in your plex server settings)
IP Address: Address of the PC where your Plex server is running
Protocol: Should be TCP but “All” will also work
Status: Enables
Common service port: I think you don´t have to choose anything there as it will only overwrite the Service port in the first field, but you can post a screenshot of the options.
Merry Christmas

I cant screenshot but it has options like: DNS HTTP PPTP TELNET FTP and so on…
Also, i tried using my ip (found in by search online) and it says: “Error code 261096, the IP adress is not the same subnet with LAN IP adress”. what is the problem and what i need to do?
Thanks and merry christmas
Hi,
Did you use your public IP?
You have to use the local IP of your PC. Normally it starts with something like 192.168.xxx.xxx
You should find this in the network settings on your computer. In my previous post I meant look in google how to find the local IP if you don’t know it

**I also used the Local IP, it worked (no errors), but still when i launched Plex on my xbox it was just an never ending loading screen.

OK, sorry, maybe someone else can help you than.
But as long as PLEX is not visible from the outside (as you wrote in your second post) you don´t have to look for other faults in your setup …
Just a though: When you go to UPnP => Is this enabled?
(Basically all you were doing should be done automatically via UPnP. So if this is disabled in your router => activate it and then remove the checkbox to manually specify a port in your PLEX server and try it again. You maybe have to restart your PLEX server to take an effect)
EDIT: If you have a firewall running this could also affect this => try disabling it.

Don’t worry, we mark it answered/solved but it remains open and if something changes you can unmark it as answered.

Curious, just got a xbox one for the kids and have been using Plex since the OG Roku days, but v1.5 on the xbox one is simply spinning on startup like xmenta said above. I saw the comments on remote access and port forwarding, but that seems to imply the xbox one app will not run on a local network. Is that true? I have multiple rokus, a fire tv stick, and android tablets running plex apps on my local network without any issue or remote access/port forwarding turned on. Is remote access a requirement for the xbox one plex app?
@leoniv@hotmail.com said:

Yes, it is.
The Xbox One app needs to look online via plex.tv for the local IP of your server as Microsoft prohibits 3rd party apps to do so on their own.
So you need remote access enabled and working even when you are using the xbox one app in your local network.
@leoniv@hotmail.com said:

It’s exactly as @mike4001 explained currently the app is prevented from browsing the local network to look for the server. To get around this the App connects to Plex.tv and pulls your servers local ip address. After that everything will be done locally (except things that require remote access such as remote shares/watch later/etc)
Thanks jmckee and mike4001. Didn’t realize the xbox one app needed to call home to plex initially. I’ll turn on remote access (UPnP is already on) and everything should work after that. Sounds like after the initial IP lookup on plex.tv I can turn remote access off again? I don’t really have any use for remote access so I’d rather it be off if it’s unnecessary after the initial IP lookup. Thanks.
