Plex losing subtitle while playing

This is getting really annoying. Just installed the latest release 1.10.1.4602 and still the subs disapear after 5 -7 min or so. This is happening when using Samung Note 8 and Chromecast. Is it possible to downgrade on a Synology NAS to the version it was working just fine?

Same issue here. Playing from Nvidia Shield PMS at Chromecast (1st gen) connected directly to Samsung TV, Plex controlled via phone app, subtitles disappearing after about 3-5 minutes of playback, same for all media files I tried.

Nvidia Shield PMS version: 1.10.0.4523 (smb)
Plex mobile phone app version: 6.10.2.2954 (Samsung Galaxy S7)

Logs, MKV file and subtitles available at this URL: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/c337b6945ef80c4f8001b1e0c792bbd820171216111113/ca616a4310d1cfcec894b3cfde38eb9620171216111113/6549e4
Issue happened at around 4:05

It seems that the issue is not present if playing the same file directly from Shield to TV. The difference seems to be that in playing it directly from Shield the audio is not being transcoded and video transcoding shows it’s from h264 to h264 (hw). When playing at Chromecast it was Direct playing video and transcoding audio from AC3 to ACC.

When is the next release?

Don’t have a date but i do expect it to be soon

I’m experiencing the same problem on my FireTV.
When viewing a video through the web interface, all subtitles appear fine. On the FireTV, nearly half the subtitles are skipped.

It could be the same issue as that for chromecast. The bug was in handling of subs when automatic adjustment of quality is not in use for that playback

I noticed problems with subtitles, switching them off and back on makes them work again for a while, seems like a workaround until they release a new version.

You are able to downgrade too on your NAS - just STOP it, uninstall and reinstall older version - no need to do anything else.
more info can be found here: forums.plex.tv/discussion/152551/how-to-downgrade-pms-in-synology-nas

I followed other users downgrading to Plex Media Server 1.8.4.4249-3497d6779 (9th July 2017) for the time being.

Unistalling will not delete any of your settings or library
You cannot downgrade without uninstalling first
You can find all previous versions within your own computer in the USER/AppData location: Check the folder C:\Users\XXXXXXXXX\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates
or dl link here: filehorse.com/download-plex-media-server/31988/

Results so far with this version - all works fine!!!

Downgrading today, as I’m having the same problem with Plex.
Using ChromeCast Plex gets spinning wheels and stops showing subtitles after about 6 minutes.
Frustrating.

I am having the same problem

The detail is I have WD Live TV and use a external drive to movie storage and when I use the WD Live TV to access this external drive like USB connected everything runs smooth but when I switch back to the PC server connected to this same external drive using android PLEX app ■■■■■ get serious again

Googling this problem brings up a 2012 post with the same problem so WTF PLEX ?

Should UTF8 converting change this

Very irritating problem

Did you make a backup first on your Synology or just uninstall it and install the new version? I had troubles creating a backup with that command, so wonder if i just uninstall it and reinstall it.

Let me know please

Plex Media Server 1.11.0.4633 has just been released as beta release

It includes the fix for the dropping out of subtitles - seen mainly on chromecast

See Release Note http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1577387/#Comment_1577387

  • (Transcoder) Sidecar subtitles could disappear when using direct stream (#7931)

All - Potential?

FIX - (Transcoder) Sidecar subtitles could disappear when using direct stream (#7931)

Just wanted to say that I got the same problem too on version 1.10.1.4602, but mainly when using an iPhone to cast to the Chromecast on our TV upstairs. Subtitles always start and keep working for a couple of minutes. After that the subtitles are randomly appearing/disappearing. Once the latest version is released as stable I will try again (as I am not a Plex Pass user).

Installed and tested and confirmed solved!!!

Thank you all for the assist!

Menno

Tested 1.11.0.4633 with 2 episodes yesterday without any problem with subs. Looks promising. More testing needed

Having the same issue here, can I help you Devs?

Merry Xmas to you all.

Hi,

I have two Plex servers, one installed on my DS415+ Synology NAS and another installed on a mini-PC HP with Intel i3 processor. From those two servers i stream movies only to Chromecast 2 devices with my android phone. For some time, I have not noticed exactly when, on some tv shows and movies, the subtitles disappear after a few minutes. It’s very annoying. And if I try to go forward or backward or if I try to change the resolution setting, the film is frozen.
Before I had absolutely no problem with subtitles, everything was going perfectly.

Thank you!

P.S. The problem appear on both servers, LAN or over the internet.
