I’ll restart it now and see what happens…
Great, thanks!
Doesn’t anyone find it strange that his external IP ends in .1? That is normally reserved for gateways. Something doesn’t look right here…
Okay, I just reset the modem and router and I’m going to try to connect to Plex Media Server to see what happens…
When you say Reset them, do you mean restarted? Like powered them off and on again?
No, the .1 is only for local gateways (routers). A pubic IP ending with .1 is perfectly valid according to dnslytics.com
I went into the admin settings and selected the option to restart the Modem. Anyhow, I just did it and now I have no internet connection on this Media Server mac Mini at all through ethernet.
Previously I could connect through ethernet up until the point that I tried to connect to Plex Media Server. Then I would lose the ability to connect to the internet through the ethernet connection. Now it won’t work at all through ethernet.
I am connected right now to this forum through WiFi on the same network connected to the same router.
Can you take a screenshot of your Ethernet in System Preferences / Network for us?
If both WiFi and Ethernet are enabled, Mac will use WiFi first.
Doesn’t that depend on how the ‘Service Order’ is set in Network Preferences?
Unfortunately not… Mac/Apple prefers WiFi for AirPlay and HomeKit.
Since I am also running Homebridge on my Mac, I had to disable WiFi to make the connection more stable.
This isn’t using Airplay or HomeKit though?
No… But Apple thinks that their products always take precedence ![]()
Not from my experience but I don’t think this is even relevant for the OP. Starting the Plex Media Server service shouldn’t stop all internet traffic between devices.
Thanks. Now enable Wifi and take a screenshot of the Wi-Fi settings please.
You’re not getting an IP on Ethernet? Was Plex Media Server launched when you took the Ethernet screenshot?
No, it was not. But remember, after I reset the modem, I can’t connect to the internet via ethernet anymore.
One more observation: OP states his Internet connection is with CenturyLink, yet the external IP shown in the screenshot is from Spectrum.
