Plex Media Install Launch issue win 10

Lifetime subscriber so I love plex and cant wait to get it working again. Please help.

Windows 10- 64 (up to date)

I had everything up and running about 6 months ago, uninstalled it because of some issues with my media files and wanted to start again fresh. Bad idea.

Everytime I install the medi server from the zip file provided on the Plex site it fully installs then I hit “launch” and it does not open.

  1. It appears in the small icon tray but clicking open does nothing
  2. I have tried uninstalling and installing many times to no result
  3. I remember when I tried to troubleshoot this last that a regedit was required and I believe i did that at the time but cannot remember what edit it was.
  4. I have tried installing it with compatibility with windows 8 = Error Error 0x80240017: Failed to execute MSU package
  5. I have tried windows troubleshooter for install and uninstall (no better)
  6. After install when I go to the browser page for my profile it still just says “install plex media server” even after I have installed or at least the program says it installed successfully.

Please help.

Not sure why opening the web app from the system tray icon isn’t working for you.
Try opening http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in a browser on the machine that’s running your PMS.

It just directs me to download the plex media server again.
What should i troubleshoot next?

Did you previously run an install of Plex on that system?

Yes it used to run okay on this system. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled and am having issues. If i try to run the program from the exe file nothing happens also even if I try to run as administrator.

I am willing to pay someone $50 to solve this issue for me. I have spend way too long trying to figure it out.
